Stirge Keeper

What would be a CR 4-9 critter that would make for a good "king/queen" of the stirges? I have a large colony lairing in a cave and I think it would be fun to add another, different threat as the PCs get swarmed with mosquitoes. I guess such a creature would have to be bloodless.

A blood elemental (CR 6) could be fun, since it is all blood.

A rogue eidolon (Fiend Folio, CR 9) could also be fun, as it is a construct with a blood spray ability. Similarly, a blood golem (Fiend Folio, CR 8) has all kinds of blood-related features.

I can picture the stirges "nesting" on one of these two like a twisted hummingbird feeder.
