"Wait!" Carolina shouts, breaking her typical silence. "Might be a ruse... something to get us to stop. Best have a careful look-see first."

Forest near Nightstone
Morning
Round 0

Dren eyed the bodies from the wagon as they came upon them. And then a strange half-elf steps out of the trees. The dwarf eyes the man warily. As the others went to examine the bodies, the dwarven monk kept his eye on the surroundings. But he got bored and picked up a potato, using one of his axes to peel off slices for a bit of a morning snack.

Carolina: You study the surroundings for few moments and determine that the coast is clear. No ambushes or traps around the bodies.

Fistan: You are able to determine that the pendent depicts Asmodeus, a prominent god of the nine hells.

Tranio: The three individuals in the road are dead. They were eleven men all dressed in light green armor. Most likely they were scouts for the settlement within in Ardeep forest. You can tell from the wounds on their body that the weapons used were crude and savage. The most troubling thing is the lack of ears. Each has had them cut off, perhaps as some sort of trophy?

Entire Party:

You would all be aware of Goldenfields. It is a large walled city consisting mostly of farmland. It is often called the bread basket of the north and supplies food for the major populations of the sword coast. The Emerald Enclave protects the city and this man, if telling the truth, would likely be on of their soldiers.

"This looks like orc work," says a pale Spuds. "We best get a move on. Two gold if you want to join," the farmer says with a point to the newcomer.

Tranaio is a gravedigger by profession. "We bury the bodies first," he says. "Cremation would leave a smoke trail."

And he sets to. Others can help, but he will take these bodies off the road, prepare them, and say a prayer. He doesn't need graves six feet deep -- through death bodies can nourish the rest of nature, of course -- but if they were left there as a warning, he wants to frustrate the message, and if left there in carelessness, he wants to show attention.

FitzTheRuke

Legend
Aremus, having been on the road for quite some time, gratefully agrees to pay Spuds for a spot on the wagon.

He also joins Tranaio in burying the bodies. Having a fondness for elves that still live in their traditonal style, he is saddened to see these three killed in such a horrific and unnecessary fashion.

"A curse on all orcs." he offers, as he lays one in the ground.

As he lays them to rest, he takes note of anything the orcs may have left that could identify these elves for their families.

Fistan, Wizard 2

Only half convinced that this was the work of orcs, Fistan wonders if this is the work of prejudice against elves brought about my misguided idiots. He keeps his thoughts to himself though and sets about drawing stick men in the sand around a piece of string and causing an unseen force to help dig the graves or move the bodies.

Carolina is of no use digging holes or dragging bodies. She will scout the surrounding area and keep an eye out for trouble while the others go about their work.

Aremus: You find various necklaces, made of fresh water shells, that would be of no use to the orcs. You take them and burn the mens' features to memory.

Carolina: You guard the others as they go about digging, but no threat ever appears.

Fistan & Tranio: The combination of strength and magic make the task go quickly. Still not quick enough for Spuds, who complained and jumped at shadows the whole time.

Entire Party: Soon enough you are back on the road. The trip is uneventful save for a suspended rope bridge hanging over a cliff. The wagon barely fit and the bridge swayed more than any of you would like, but it held.

Eventually, the villagers' tracks end at a yawning cave mouth that is 12 feet wide and 20 feet tall. Spuds hasn't brought the wagon close enough to see into the pitch black cavern, but even from a distance you can hear the echos of dripping water.
