Well, it goes against the conventional wisdom as expressed by various "successful" story hour authors, but I lean towards longish updates (8 to 14 pages in word) about every three weeks (though lately I have been bad)).

The thing is I like to end installments on cliff-hangers, or right after a SHOCKING REVELATION, etc. . . to leave the readers hanging - so sometimes I need to keep writing til I reach one of those points - or at the end of the session in question.

When reading other story hours, I would like them about every 2 weeks, but for them to have substantial length to feel satisfied - so I am willing to accept one per month.

Right now the only one I am regularly reading is Sagiro's - but I hope to go back and read Old One's from the beginning again and finally catch up.

Well I prefer to write my updates such that I neither stay up writing till 4am that friday night, and that I get to end on a relative cliffhanger. Keep in mind that I only started writing the SH nearly two years into the campaign so I've been playing catchup this entire time. The campaign is likely to be over before I'm caught up.

If I was writing the updates concurrent with the events of the campaign I'd write up each session per week constantly, however long it was. Some folks however seem to like shorter updates.

However, define long and short. I'm usually writing anywhere from 10-15 pages in word every week for an update. Would that qualify as long or short? ;)

Back when I actually wrote mine, I was very poor at updating it. I averaged probably once a month. I did one session per update. My sessions occurred every other week. I guess you can see that I was falling further and further behind, and predictably I never caught up and just gave up on the whole business.

Frequent updates help your SH stay on the front page, where more people will see it.

Based on my own experience, long updates mean it takes longer to acquire readers. Short updates are more accessible to more people.

My SH reading has tapered off a lot lately, and contrary to what I just said, length and frequency don't matter much for the ones I do read. I update mine every 2-5 days (shoot for every 2) with short posts, usually about a screen or two.

I'll disagree with this. If I'm following a SH, and eagerly awaiting an update, I strongly prefer frequent, long posts. Feasibility be damned, that's what I want. In fact, I want the whole story right now, and I want it to go on forever remaining interesting the whole time.

Personally, I like any sequence that suits the style of the storyhour. Long updates can work as effectively as shorter ones, but they need to be a lot stronger if they want to hold my interest.
