strangest bit of advice (ot)

this is a d20 noard, specifically geared toward d+d, but we come here for community.

this is aptly illustrated by the threads on peoples birthdays and the playoffs in (insert sport here) and mocking of p-kitty. it also becomes a sounding board and advice column for a lot of us. i personally have come here for computer advice, limnology and others.

Back on the old boards, long long ago, somebody once posted a thread How Can I Get My Girlfriend to Lose Weight, there was some odd advice there. I posted a mock thread, How Can I Get My Girlfriend Out of a Coma. It was a play on the Smiths song, Girlfriend in a Coma (I know, I know it's serious). A lot of people didn't realize it...

The oddest things that I've seen just over the past year...

How should I approach a girl for a second date?

What should I have for lunch today?

The most impressive I saw was someone helping another person find a job in their area! I don't know if it ever panned out, since neither party posted a follow-up, but I would be impressed if it worked...

As far as advice, the best advice I saw was how to ask a navy recruiter the right questions to keep someone from getting shafted into a service branch they didn't like for several years.

It's been a strange ride with this community, but I've definitely been the richer for it.

I'm not sure what you mean. If you are referring to the one where someone was helping another person find a job, I remember that it was during another thread where someone was expressing some personal hardships they were going through, and off-handedly mentioned that they were out of work. Another person stepped up to the plate and offered several alternatives physically nearby, if I recall, and IIRC they even offered a recommendation! Weird, but that's the kind of community it can be here.
