Strength based monks?

The Monk's Adamantine Ki Strike at higher levels automatically bypasses hardness, making the Monk a damn fine sunderer.

Huh. I never even noticed that it bypassed hardness. Interesting. I guess high level dwarven monks make good miners! :)

I would love to see a STR based monk (or more properly, a martial artist style) modeled after SUMO style; that is, as if the SUMO fighting style evolved outside of competition circles... something that could be used in an OA setting.

Anyone see anything like that?

Hmmm...well there is the variant class ability in the PHB II that gives monks "one big hit" instead of "lots of little hits" which seems to be closer to the SUMO style. Maybe throw in some bull rushing?

It does according to the FAQ. :)

FAQ? Never seen that in the core books, which page is that?

EDIT: Ah a web-thing.. Could you point to where in the FAQ it is so stated? I have just read the monk part, and every answer the sage gave (that i could find) agrees with my first statement.

EDIT EDIT: HMM They do indeed say its okay in the feat section /boggle

It really depends on how you pronounce it.

FAQ as "Fact" or,

FAQ as "Fa-Cue".

You have to say the second one kind of fast. (Not unlike Shrek's "Farquaad".)

Jack99,

The issue around whether a Monk qualifies for INA has been around for a while. Some believe that Monk's don't qualify, some do, and some sit on the fence.

Either way, the discussion on the topic is long winded, angst ridden, and old news.

Feel free to search the older threads for this topic.

Improved Natural Attack quite obviously works for monks, as unarmed strikes are treated as both manufactured and natural weapons.

And, by the same token, a goliath may not use Powerful Build to wield a bigger unarmed strike.

Aye, Sorry mate. I only recently returned to DnD after having been on a break since shortly after 3.0 was released, so I am still catching up on the hot topics.

Thanks for the heads up :)

Soright! :)

I've seen a couple of threads locked by the moderators when the debate about INA turned nasty. It's hardly as clear cut as everyone on both sides of the argument like to think it is.

Here is just one link where the thread got closed. It's a short one at only a few pages:

Can monks get improved natural attack?

and this one:

Human monks can take Improved Natural Attack?

Other similar threads lead to suspensions and bans from EnWorld from overzealous advocates of each side of the argument.....
