Stuff that s*cks

For reasons that are beyond my comprehension, I am tasked with moving a bunch of objects from one database to a different database. Each of these objects has several gigantic attachments affiliated with it. The attachments cannot be copied over directly; they must be detached to my hard drive and then re-attached in the new database.

This takes a Very. Long. Time.

I have be watching the freakin' lightning bolt at the bottom-left corner of Lotus Notes for LITERALLY 25 minutes now, as it tries to attach a several hundred meg file.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

At least it's not slowing down my web-surfing.

, dammit! :ROLL-FREAKIN'EYES:!

OH BOY!

and now MIGRATE!

One of our Solaris servers crashed the other day. Our sysadmin had to spend like 120 minutes hitting the y key to repair file fragments. It was not fun.

I felt pretty bad for him.

Hey, Joshua, I spent the last 6 or so years programming Lotus Notes. A fair amount of that time involved working with attachments and other OLE-associated goodness. I'm currently working with SQL Server and VB.NET. If you give me a better description of what you're doing, there's a very real chance I'd be able to whip up a little applet to make your life easier.

Of course, it all depends on how many times you need to do this. There is a point of diminishing returns.

Heh, thanks for the offers of help. This is one of those projects where the limited number of objects to be moved makes it pointless to make an applet. No, I just get to suffer for a few days. Ah well. I can legitimately say that no, I can't do anything else in Lotus Notes right now, so I *have* to post on EN World. ;)
