Stunning Fist Man

I'd still avoid Vow of Poverty and the Sacred Vow. Somehow, I'd miss being able to tailor my arsenal to cover my present needs, and miss the ability to pull a fool'em from out of the bag of holding (or whatever).
A monk's belt is also handy in that case...

Hmm, I just have the SRD with me right now, but what about adding rogue levels?

Going with the level 5 example: Monk 2/Rogue 3
Add Expert Tactician
Flurry attack #1(Stunning): 1d6 + Str damage
ExTac 3d6 + Str damage
Flurry attack #2: 3d6 + Str damage

Use weapon finesse and make Dex a good stat to offset the slower BAB progression. He may not have the HP to tank, but he should have a high enough AC to last on the field.

The adition of a rogue level wouldn't be too bad, although it means you don't get that nice 6th attack at 20th level unless you go Monk 13 / rogue 1 / Fighter 6 or find some good monk PrCs that grant +1 BAB per level.

Three levels might be overkill though. The extra d6 of damage probably isn't worth the loss of 2 more points of SR, Quivering Palm, Ki Strike (adamantium), etc. Even if you don't go the fighter route so you can still get those abilities, you put them off for three levels, and only gain an extra couple d6 damage and trap abilities. The evasion is one major reason to multi-dip into rogue, but you've already got that.

Earth's embrace: IIRC this has been reprinted in Complete Warrior, and rather than dealing double damage you now deal an extra d12 damage. Its still quite nice, but nowhere near as over the top as it used to be.

I wouldn't see evasion as the main reason to go multiclassing into rogue... sneak attack damages most targets you might try to stun, so it's a nice synergy. Hmm, 4 levels of rogue for Uncanny Dodge, 12 levels monk and 4 levels fighter? Right, you lose the high levels goodies, but who wants to live forever ;)?
