Stupid Familiar Question

Here's a dumb question ... for a Wiz 5/Druid 5, what would the "Master Class Level" be to determine Familiar Special Abilities (ala PHB Table 3-19, p. 51)?

Basically, is it only levels in Wizard that count? I know it must be, but I can't find it anywhere in the book. It just says "class level" not Wizard class level.

Thanks!

Wouldn't Wizard and Sorcerer levels plus PrC levels count?

Unless the PrCl specifically stats that Familiars improve with levels in it, they would not. It's one of the things Wizards/Soprcerers give up in taking a prestige class.

Even if they get +1 Caster Level?

Ya, if you read the section on +1 caster level it says it improves spells per day and spells known. AFAIK it does not improve the familiars.

It's been clarified in some of the splat books, most notably, T&B:

Some abilities (natural armor bonus, Int increase, special abilities) depend on the Master's "Class Level", only Wizard (or Sorcerer) levels count for those... No PrCs either.

Other abilities (hit dice, hit points, saves, skills) depend on the Master's "Character Level", all levels from all classes and PrCs count for those.

Wow ... didn't know about PrCs. I guess since you're getting +1 Caster Level for each PrC level, you need to give up something (although this is a pretty minor thing to give up).
