Sudden Metamagic Feats Rock!

The Complete Arcane has the Sudden feats.

Any other books with 'em in them? I can't recall off the top of my head.

Didn't miniatures handbook have em too?

I'm pretty sure their straight from the Miniature's Handbook. (Yeah, that book's been mined pretty heavily...)

This reminded me - I was in one of the local game stores a few weeks ago, and saw a stack of these going for $15 each. I think the combination of how heavily it's been mined and the split between miniature and rpg rules has really weakened demand of the book. (looks on ebay) Yeah... looks like there's a bunch up for auction and the few bids there are, have been placed on only the cheapest auctions.

Example: When casting a sudden empowered fireball, the prepared fireball is spent and so is an open 5th level spell slot.

With this option, the cost of not having prepared an empowered fireball in one of your slots is one feat + another spell slot. I'm sure there are situations where you'd like to have that feat, (like, when you can't afford to wait 15minutes) but that's not enough to make it a viable feat IMO.

Here's an ugly spellpoint-esquevariation ;

Spell Slots used: When you use a sudden metamagic feat to cast a spell you have prepared, you must expend that prepared spell AND any other combination of slots worth the level of the metamagiced spell.

My problem with the sudden feats comes from our style of play: we seldom have more than a couple of combat encounters by day, if any. This gives an edge to the spellcasters, and all the X/day limitations are much less effective balancewise.
