Suitable Replacement Mount for A Wemic Paladin

First Post
In my campaign, I have a character playing a wemic (aka "liontaur") Paladin of Nobanion (set in the Forgotten Realms). Since she cannot possibly ride, nor does she really need, a mount, I'm trying to find some alternative to supplant the loss of her paladin's mount.

I've considered offering her 3 feats, and possibly one spell like ability, but that just seems sort contrived.

Can anyone think of suitable, story-related alternative?

Thanks,

Considered giving her a bonded rider? :P

Give her the mount powers that are applicable, though that is probably a bit much.

Give her a familiar.

Hurm, actually the best thing that comes to mind is take the Fiendish servant from the Black Guard, cross out fiendish and write in Celestial, and you're probably right on target.

I'm on a similar page as Oni.

Find a suitable animal companion for the paladin, and give him that. Something appropriate to the god, and the wemic. Something at about the same Challenge Rating as the horse would be, and then start advancing its abilities from there. If the wemic's god has some association with avians, perhaps give him a falcon or the like. Or if the god is of the sun, look for something appropriately diurnal, possibly in some way golden furred or feathered (to reflect its association with the sun). A hunting cat of some sort almost seems appropriate in my mind, so long as it's essentially about as powerful as the horse would have been - perhaps a bit more, in light of the fact that a mount receives certain advantages that an animal without a rider wouldn't (The Mounted Combat feat springs immediately to mind, which brings along the others that it's the prerequisite for).

I think I've found your problem...

Sorry. To try and give a serious answer, it's a tough question, since the value of a mount is debatable and situation specific. Maybe something like the Druid's new animal companion, and you can just tack on the summon for 1 hour/level that the paladin's mount has right now?

I'm not familiar with the god in question, but I'd look towards the god's realm for ideas.

edit: Trickstergod must have been posting just before me.

Definitely go with the animal companion idea. Giving the paladin feats instead would probably be a lot more help that the paladin lost when he decided to be a race that can't ride anything... not that paladins couldn't use a boost... I'm just sayin' is all.

Our paladin centauress had a similar problem. I believe we ended up giving her a unicorn companion (though the discussion of what constituted a "mount" did occasionally veer in a direction more suited to the Book of Erotic Fantasy). Given the example of the Holy Liberator and similar "prestige paladin" classes, some sort of animal companion seems to be the semi-official way to go.
We also allowed alternate prerequisites for a number of feats and skills. For a character that can serve as a mount, Ride skill represents "skill at being ridden", and an intelligent mount can substitute its own Ride check for that of its rider (allowing you to, say, rescue a child or other person without Ride skill without them falling off every few feet). Mounted Combat lets you protect your rider (although to reduce munchkinizing you may want to rule, as we did, that either the rider or the mount, but not both, can use the feat in a given round). We gave Spirited Charge a prerequisite of Power Attack, and Trample a prereq of Improved Overrun.

I'll drop 2 cents into this conversation.

Assuming this isn't an all combat campaign:
Drop a level of ECL off of the Wemic at levels 8 and 15.

This will even out the character with any non-ECL characters in the party, and seems like a good gift from Aslan, errr Nobanion.

If this is a combat heavy campaign, hand out an animal companion or celestial ally like others have suggested.

Logic requires that mounts have twice as many legs as the rider, usually for extra weight carrying properties but also for aesthetic qualities.

So your wemic needs an octopus or a spider. Barring logic, a giant, awakened ball of yarn would also serve nicely (especially downhill).

Really, the celestial rider sounds like a good idea, although a wemic i could see as having a pride of celestial lions (or even just a lone one if it's powerful enough)
