Charlie's Angels 2: Full Throttle!!!

Now there's just what I'm wanting in a big dumb action film. Big, dumb and lots of action. If it's half as good as the first it'll be twice as good as anything else I see coming up. Woo hoo!

Oh, yeah, I can see that discussion. "Hey, honey, I need to rent Charlie's Angels. No, no...it's so I can compare editing styles."

On another note, wouldn't those two shots be as much a function of the editing and camera work as the directing? I ask this mostly because I have a hard time giving credit to a man who bills himself as 'McG', no matter how talented he may be.

So, after what I consider to be a very, very dry first third of 2003 for movie entertainment (possible exception: Daredevil), we're less than two weeks away from the beginning of the summer movie season. I'm sure most of us are looking forward to sci-fi features like Matrix Reloaded, The Hulk, and X-Men 2. What else coming out this summer is getting you goofy?

and PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN, Johnny Depp, Skeletal Pirates and sword play. How can this NOTbe fun? Alright I can think of a couple of ways but I'm willing to give this one a chance.

in the Fall:

KILL BILL, Uma Thurman looks a little stiff in some of the fight scenes but Gordon Liu is in it so I'll check it out.

RETURN OF THE KING

UNDERWORLD vampires vs. Werewolves. As long as I dont have to see it in a theater full of Vampire or Warewolf players of LARPers I should enjoy this.

MOVIES I Could give a crap about:

Charlies Angels 2: Full Thottle. I like FastLane. I HATED CHARLIES ANGELS with a passion that burns like the sun. So more than likely I'll stay away from this one.

JEEPERS CREEPERS 2 I got tricked into the first one. If I had known that it was by the same guy who directed POWDER, who is a convicted child molester I would not have went. As it was it was an hour and a 1/2 of my life that I'll never get back. I'll be passing on the sequel.

T3: Rise of the Machines This movie actually has a few things going for it. Johnathan Mostow( U571 and the underrated BREAKDOWN) Nick Stahl (IN THE BEDROOM) and Ahnold. Things that it has going vs. it: No CAMERON. Even though he hasnt been the same since after THE ABYSS, he's still the first choice to do this movie. If I hear that it's actually good I'll go check it out.

although, it will be coming out this week. being asian, i always look forward to american cinema that focuses on asians outside of the typical kung-fu martial arts mold, although i love those movies as well.

I saw this one over the weekend. It's currently playing in select cities, including Chicago, and I've always been a sucker for watching stuff before it's national release.

I went into the movie without knowing much about it, and I really enjoyed it. I think it's actually one of those movies where telling someone what the story is _about_ doesn't really tell them much. The story is very well told, which is the most important part. I was engrossed throughout the entire movie, but the ending is kind of abrupt. First time director Lin has received a lot of praise for this movie. This one's got my recommendation.

See, I am blessed with a wife who not only insisted we buy the DVD, but never gets tired of watching it.

What can I say? Other than, "Gee, shucks, ain't I lucky?"

Well, somebody had to plan the shots. Then somebody had to shoot the footage. Then somebody had to cut the footage correctly. It's possible in either case that the director was not completely involved in all of those steps.

But ultimately they're responsible. They hired the team, it's their vision on the screen, however it got there. I'm sure that both McG and the Warchowskis had final cut in their contracts, so if they didn't like something, they could have changed it.

When you're the boss, everything is your fault.

You know, I am so out of the loop. I knew of only one of the movies mentioned in this thread..

lots do look good.. even if not "good" for the sake of artistic critique, but good for "all around good fun / entertainment"



I will have to do my research before I am ready to discuss this matter...

Local girl from Hawaii done good.

Pirates of the Caribbean - While not high on my list, Johnny Depp has never disappointed me in a movie, so I will check it out.

Seen a report and interview on Entertainment Tonight regarding this film ... and you could hardly recognize Depp in his pirate outfit. Trust me, he ain't pretty (guess that's why they hired Orlando "Legolas" Bloom).

Is there really an intense backlash and hatred for these films? With covers on Premiere and Entertainment Weekly I find it hard to believe -- but I am notably out of touch with popular culture.

Pretty much everyone I talk to is wildly anticipating these films, however, so I'm surprised you say there's an intense backlash. Where are you getting that from?

... I'm curious to know what you thought of Memento {if you've seen it}?

While it was a tricksy little exercise in pomo neo-noir {hah, words that mean nothing, and yet I use them...}, I found it to be signifigantly different from The Usual Suspects {which it was inevitable, and for my money, wrongly, compared to}.

I thought Memento was pretty effective meditation on the nature of memory and the sustaining internal narratives that allow folks to make it through the day. It functioned as metaphor in a way The Usual Suspects didn't {and to be fair, didn't try to}.

For the record, I liked The Usual Suspects. Thought it was well done. There just wasn't much that kept my fires stoked after I saw it, there was nothing to revisit. I suppose you could make an argument that it was an examination of the desire to suspend belief and the power of narrative to convince despite mounting evidence that the narrative is a load of crap...

I have seen it, but only once, and actually missed the first thirty seconds or so, so I hugely need to see it again.

I agree, almost nothing like Suspects.

What I took away from Momento was pretty much what you came up with -- how we make up stories in our lives that aren't necessarily based on what actually happened -- but the stories become more important than the hard-to-remember facts of our lives. I liked it a good deal.

I need to see it again before I can really talk about it with much confidence, though.

What makes Suspects fly, in my opinion, is almost wholly the performance of Benicio del Toro. He's so funny.

All you have to is look around boards like these to find MATRIX hate. It seems anytime someone posts a pro matrix topic someone has to show up and start bashing. It sucks, so yeah there is a backlash. Most notably "It's not as smart as it thinks it is" and " Dark City was better". Hell people were saying this after a few weeks of THE MATRIX inital theatrical run.

Not nessecarily (sp?) true. I just really HATE that Angels movie. The only one that I "liked" was Natalie (Cameron Diaz) because she was just so good natured and goofy. But other than her I HATED that movie, it's not even a rational I can tell you why I hated it kind of HATE. It's just...I dont know.

I think you said that you liked the MUMMY movies and DEEP RISING. I LOVE DEEP RISING. That's a fun little movie. Stephen Summers gets it and I'm looking forward to VAN HELSING with Hugh Jackman next summer...
