Summoner Wars

Has anyone else played this neat little card wargame? Victim gave me the Dwarves vs. Goblins set for Christmas, and we've been playing the heck out of it. I mean, we've also been playing some Dominion: Intrigue, but we both expected that one to be good. It kind of reminds me of a combination of M:tG and Warhammer (a very good thing, I'd say :)), but without the monetary and time costs associated with both games.

My only real complaint about the game (well other than that I think Engineers are useless) is the paper board it comes with sucks. I'm thinking of buying the premium cardboard one, and definitely plan on picking up the Fallen Kingdom/Vanguard factions.

Definite thumbs up for this game.

You're just awful in general. :) Didn't you lose a game to someone who never played it before?

Another reason I like this game is my winning percentage, but everyone else's experiences are probably different there (unless Victim is also your principal opponent).

I recently picked this up and played two "games against myself" to learn the mechanics, and did a quick game with a friend.

It was good fun, though it will take a few more plays to learn how to get the strategy down (when should you start making magic by burning cards, which cards are best to keep around, when to press with the Summoner, etc)

I did get the heavy board from the manufacturer and when you do, they'll send an errata card for Thorkur (Dwarf faction) and a mercenary card. The board is way superior to the paper ones they give you, so if you are going to play it a lot, I highly recommend it.

Yeah, but paying 15 dollars for just a board seems steep when that same money could be going towards more cards.

But I'm definitely thinking about it, which I think just goes to show how terrible their paper mat really is.
