Example - God does not want to pester his divine agents when the cleric can't see. So summoning a lantern archon for a continual flame would not be permitted. After all, if the cleric thought to bring a torch he would not have that problem.

Nitpick, when a creature is summoned, any ongoing effects created by that creature end when the summoning duration ends. Hence, any continual light spell cast by a summoned lantern archon will end when the summon spell duration ends.

I agree with you... but I was always curious where it says this? Obviously, cuts and slashes by summoned creatures remain after the creature departs, but what about other spell-like effects? I'd say instanteous effects remain, but what about things like Fear spells, etc. is someone who is poisoned by a summoned creature automatically cured when that creature leaves?

Wrong. Permanent effects remain.

Spells or other effects with an instantanous duration have their results remain, but anything else vanishes with the summoned creature. Even effects that are normally permanent vanish when a summoned creature dissapears, see the FAQ, page 52.

My wizard used summon monster VI to summon a red slaad for a battle. One of a slaad’s attacks is implanting eggs in its victims, which is apparently how slaadi reproduce. Will the eggs disappear when the spell expires and the slaad departs, or do they remain?
Any magical effect a summoned creature creates ends when the summoning ends (even if it is normally permanent). Many such effects, however, actually have instantaneous durations, but lasting consequences. Energy drain, for example, is instantaneous, though the victim may feel the loss for a long time.
Anything separated from a summoned creature’s body also vanishes when the summoning ends. This includes parts severed from the body and anything produced from the creature’s body, such as poison or eggs. In the case of poison, any effects the venom already has caused remain. For example, a summoned fiendish viper bites and poisons a character, who takes 3 points of temporary Constitution damage. If the summoning ends before the poison’s onset time expires, the poisoned character takes no additional effects from the poison, but the 3 points of temporary Constitution damage remain.

This might be a case of state obvious, but churchs or any other organization with divine spellcasters should be in constant communication.

A simple Animal Messenger spell (Clr 2, Drd 2, Rgr 2) will allow them to send a message. Considering that many ancient oracles and churchs used trained birds to communicate, this really isn't inappropriate.

The only difference using a Lantern Archon is that the communication is instantaneous rather than taking a few days to get there.

Considering the existence of spells like Animal Messenger, Sending, and Scrying, I don't see any problem with allowing Summon Monster to be used in this way.

I would find it somewhat strange if a fantasy world didn't have such a communication.

For something like that I use the rules for summoning from AEG'S Good. They have a very detailed section on just this thing. Its to long to explain here so I will give a breif description. The main point it makes is that even though you can summon these creatures they have a mind of their own.( if they have above a monsters INT.) So they might not like being used a errand boys. Remember these are GOOD creatures that have an interest in helping out worthy causes and if continually being summoned to deliver messages they might make a complaint to the god about wasting their time when not really needed. There are other spells that allow messages to be sent so I make my players use them instead.
