Superhero D20?

I keep reading this trying to figure out how I can read it as anything *BUT* a slight and failing.

Especially since, to the best of my knowledge, you're making that statement based on the original edition of the game, which was written 2 years ago, NOT the published version MEG, NOR the new edition recently released.

In other words, you're talking about a game you haven't read.

I am certainly up front talking about my games, but I have never tried to pimp my stuff by running down someone else's work.

Why don't you do the same?

Chuck

I'm sorry if I tried to come across as authoritative and critical. I admit, I haven't read the newer version, and I didn't know there was much of a change between the original pdf and the print version. I didn't intend to comment on something I didn't know about, and I certainly didn't mean it to be an insult. It was just that the original version of Vigilance that I read didn't satisfy what I personally wanted from a superhero rulebook. I hadn't read any of the reviews of the revised version, so I didn't know that things had changed.

No offense intended.

I'd go for Mutants and Masterminds for superheroes, but Four Color to Fantasy is a great product that I'm getting a lot of use out of; like Wickett said, great for non-standard powers(like giving a dwarf steamtech armor).

I ended up getting the 4 colors to fantasy and i REALLY like what im reading. Its a good read and i can see alot of uses for it, even in a non superhero based game. Nice ways to give some people an innate ability.

I also have MnM and Freedom City coming in the mail. So when that shows up we'll probably end up switching to that.

Thanks alot for all the posts.

Mutants and Masterminds is my favorite game (of any genre) currently on the market.

It's character creation system is nearly as flexible as the much vaunted HERO system one, and about 1/10th as complex.

The Freedom City setting is incredibly good, and has no peers that I am aware of.

Their Crooks "Villain supplement" is one of the most utility-heavy products I've ever owned.

The production values of the entire line must be seen to be believed.

I haven't seen Freedom City or Crooks yet, but I'll agree with you on the flexibility, Billy; you could easily run almost any type of campaign using the M&M rules.

the only thing I wish M&M had that it lacks is a fairly detailed "Merits and Flaws" type system like the one in Vigilance (which I think is a better than average Superhero D20 game but for it's Chracter Classes model).

If I am ranking Supers Games, it goes a little something like this...

  1. Mutants and Masterminds
  2. HERO System
  3. Vigilance
  4. Villains and Vigilantes
  5. Silver Age Sentinels
  6. Paragon
  7. Silver Age Sentinels D20

Not on list because I haven't played them: Deeds Not Words, Four Color to Fantasy, Golden Heroes.

Agreed; I'd like to see a Merits and Flaws system as well.

You haven't played with Four Color to Fantasy? Poor deprived soul, go get it now!

Geez I can't believe nobody has mentioned the first D20 Superhero game...

the less said about The Foundation the better. It's one of the few RPG products about which I have been entirely unable to find a good point to bring up.

Though the review page that is linked to above is interesting. The five reviewers sound like a wicked SUPER TEAM...

  • RAVEN
  • WARCHILD
  • ARCHER
  • WENDIGO
  • ORION

They are...THE AWESOME FORCE (or whatever:))
