Surround sound system help.

I'm getting some extra cash, I want to get a surround sound setup for my TV. I want to spend about $300.00 max. I have a DVD and VCR, not sure if I sould get one with a DVD built into the reciver. It's going into a fairly small room, 10.5 x 9 feet, if that matters. Any sugestions? Should I avoid any brands?

I have a Kenwood VR-507 Receiver hooked up to my TV, DVD player, VCR, and videogame system, and I absolutely love it. It's used in a room with the same dimensions you've listed, and the sound is excellent.

I paid a little more than $300.00 for it, but I bought it a year or so ago. You may be able to find it, or a similar item, below the $300.00 range.
