Surrounded by Gaming, but Not Gaming

Besides, this is a thread of woe, not solutions! :p

You should have a whine and cheese party. :D

Actually, that's a great idea. Sponsor an Austin gameday. That's how I met all the local Boston EN Worlders. Once you decide whose style matches your own, it's easy to pursue future gaming with them.

They had one of those once.

My most humble apologies for attempting to bring light into your world of darkness. I certainly did not intend to tread upon your woe, or bring hope to your thread.

Woe is us. Finding gamers is hard. The world has millions of them.
Of course, there are billions of people, so odds really aren't that great.
And we must find people that are like us, so that reduces the odds even more.

Lords of Light!
Let's take up quilting. There are about 20 times as many of them.

Game ON!

Yes, this sounds more fun than weeklies at the cat-infested LGS. :)

My problem isn't finding a game (I'm on a college campus, it probably wouldn't be too hard-- and I know the local SCAdians [heck, I am one]), my problem is lack of time...

Ah, the glamorous life in the arts-- all evening and weekend hours, all the time, show after show after show, never settling out to a schedule where I could say "Yes, I'm available every week on such-and-such a day..."

(I don't get to date much, either, dagnabit!)

OK, I'm done...

With animals running around it is very unprofessional, and the place smells like a wet gamer. :) I know many gamers who refuse to enter the store for that very reason. Luckily we have the other Dragons Lair (which is very clean, if small) and Thors hammer to go to.

Austin is a gaming paradise!

Try this Yahoo group ...

RPG Gamer Classifieds on the WoTC boards is a good place, and you can search.

Having recently put together a game in Ohio from a diverse group of people I can make the following suggestions:

*Use the Gamer Boards here. Be patient and link to your classified in your sig here.
*The Wizards boards are also good for finding other gamers in your area.
*Check to see if there is a meetup.com group in your area, it seems some are going strong and others are struggling, but you just need to bump shoulders with some gamers in your area.
*Talk about it some at work. Sometimes you will run into someone that used to play and would be interested in playing again. Or maybe they are already playing.
*Several people here have had good luck with http://www.accessdenied.net/.
*Looks like someone has already posted a link to the local Yahoo group. This is another good way to find a group.
*Hang a sign at the local gaming store.

Through all of this you should at least start to meet a few gamers. From there its all networking, getting to know them and figuring out who you want to game with.

Good luck!

This is a good idea, maybe I'll start running short games at a FLGS, and then quietly talk to those people that seem like reasonably good players. I just fear that the ratio would be very low. :)

That's a great way to screen for new players!
