Survey: We haven't totally abandoned CDs

The problem with CDs (and DVDs *sob*) is that the media won't generally survive more than a decade. They're degrading even as we speak. So even if we WANT to avoid buying everything again in a new format, by necessity we'll have to. :(

I've two document-boxes of DVDs and about 50 CDs, and that's going to be expensive to replace...
Oh, it's not so drastic. I have hundreds of CD s that still work perfectly well that are 15-20 years old.

I think the primary draw of wma is, you probably don't need to install a new program on your work computer to play them.
I've never had a problem playing mp3s with Windows Media Player, which practically any workstation with Windows will have. I mean, I know what you mean; I'm in the same boat here at work (can't watch all the movie trailers people point to because I can't install Quicktime, for instance) but I can play mp3s all day long. In fact, I often do... :)

I like both CDs and downloaded music. I rip CDs I own to play on my iPod, and I burn CDs from music that I download to play on my CD player in the car. I like the ability to buy the only song I like on an album, I like being able to have my music backed up. At the same time, I like getting a CD with the liner notes and all included (my wife prefers CDs for this reason).

Even more costly than going from 3.5 to 4e, I will certainly NOT buy again all the music I have on CDs (bought CDs) in another format! In the worst of cases I will stop listening to music altogether!!
[/RANT MODE]

I've only bought a few of my collection on CDs that I'd already had on cassette... Some albums are hard to find on CD these days.

And I have music on the comp but won't go out and buy an Ipod to listen to them (I prefer to live, thankyouverymuch, rather than get killed over some stupid music machine! :] )

I LOVE digital media. I can't remember the last time I bought a CD. Physical media seems so dated to me.[.quote]

I have lots of digital media but I still prefer to buy a CD every now and then if it's by someone I like. This is just the 21st century version of me taping stuff off the radio from back in the 80s and 90s. :)

What I really want is a USB port in my car stereo. I can just fill my 1 GB flash drive with tunes and I'm set. No more lugging around a stupid CD case.

Or at least make the CD players read mp3 files! That way you can listen to your tunes on a CD you made while on a long road trip! Less CDs to haul around!
