This happens when people are upvoting and downvoting the same two options. It normally happens in the later stages of the surveys, when there are only a few favorites left on the list. But this one started early, with the same handful of people trading same 2 points back and forth between the Assassin Vine, the Shambling Mound, and the Treant since like Page 3. If each of them could hold off on downvoting the other two for a bit, this contest would be over in a week.

It actually does not matter which two options people vote for. Even when people trade off upvoting and downvoting the same two options, those two options will approach elimination. The point pool is always going down by 1 after every person votes.
