As I understand it Tenser was played by Gary's son Erinie and was one of the first 2 PC's. Mordy was Gary's PC so came when he was a player not DM and Bigby was originally an evil NPC who was charmed and became Mordy's apprentice. I guess Otiluke was Luke's character?

Gotta go with the first PC IMO.
