D&D General The ph icon characters

Ah, Black Dougal and Morgan Ironwolf, how we miss thee.

Though 3E was the height of WotC/D&D's attempts to formalize the IP (Lockwood's dragons, for ex.), and I think the iconics were a large part of that. Prior to that, possibly LJN's toyline filled that role (Go Warduke!).

Of course, in a way the oldest and well-known iconics are the likes of Mordenkainen, Tenser, Rary and the like. It's just way back then, we had the names and I don't think it was until 2E that we started to see art for them, and it wasn't yet unified like 3E's iconics.

While I don't see much value in "iconic" characters, I guess I'm just not that into official established characters in D&D. My least favorite part of published adventures is how they always want to shoehorn in some character from some other published adventure nobody at my table has played or at least whom nobody remembers. If they're going to complicate my game for that crap, it would be fun if it was at least a character where I could then show players a familiar piece of PHB artwork.

And I certainly never mind seeing a familiar face from some iconic bit of art show up again.

Yes, and let's not forget that WotC even brought those guys back for the Wild Beyond the Witchlight adventure, in which you can meet members of the League of Malevolence (Kelek, Skylla, Warduke, etc) and Valor's Call (Strongheart, Ringlerun, Mercion, etc).

Lidda ended up smoking a fatty and got so stoned she was never seen again.

Hardly. There are loads of 1e and 2e era ladies with significantly less clothing on (and in significantly more provocative poses) than that.

Yeah but its like a less is more thing. IDK.

Like its one thing to be boobily crouching near a dragon in a thong and no top and another to be pulling you pants down a tad to check a tattoo.

Or maybe thats just me LOL

Yeah, I mean, it's weird that Lidda appears to be wearing g-string underwear, and it's also clear she's exposing most of her right butt cheek to anyone who might be behind her ... but it doesn't feel like it's meant to be as erotic / titillating as many older pieces of D&D artwork are.

This piece of Lidda just feels a little too casual to be provocative. Plus, I always get distracted by the fact that her left arm is longer than her right arm.
