That is a good and pertinent question. "The Magic Encyclopedia" was published first, and was just a listing with no descriptions. "Encyclopedia Magica" followed a couple of years later and contained descriptions. The difference would certainly affect my votes. If you've never seen the 3rd edition Arms and Equipment guide, it is an absolutely fantastic book, full of useful equipment, weapons, armors, and even vehicles. I especially love their chapter on merchant wealth levels, which can also be very useful for any 5th edition campaign (I think I've even quoted it before in regards to a 5th edition question on this forum).
