I don't understand how Monty Python is down to 9 while Princess Bride is up to 30; as both are simply well-done parodies of the genre, I'd expect them to rise or fall more or less together.

Makes a lot of sense actually. When two similar things are on the list folks pump the better and dropped the lesser. For example, D&D movie was out in 24 hours, but sequel wrath of dragon god is hanging on. LotR is still solid, but Hobbit is gone. etc...

LoTR was also a much better trilogy than the Hobbit films. The latter made a lot of weird choices concerning what to spend extra time on and what to speed through.

I could see Monty Python being viewed differently than Princess Bride. I like both. However, I could see how MP might push things too far for some. Bride might be a parody, but it still maintains some semblance of still being a fantasy adventure with serious stakes and follows a pattern which is similar to a coherent adventure path.

I couldn't do it to Hawk the Slayer. It's so bad, but it's so D&D and sounds like a badly written, but common(!), character backstory. BBEG killed my wife and father, and BBEG is destroying everything. I must get an adventuring party together. Hawk gets a magic sword, an elf, a dwarf, and a couple warriors. The BBEG captures them, a common AD&D trope to make you hate the BBEG even more. There's a wizard who helps them along the way. They beat the BBEG but he might have survived...(for a sequel). In some way, shape, or form, you play D&D long enough and you've probably played that campaign.
