[Swashbuckling Adventures] Vampires of Theah

Andrew D. Gable

First Post
I was thinking today on how to incorporate vampires into Theah, where they'd fit in Theah's backstory, etc. I was toying with the idea of them as failed liches, but I don't quite like that one. I'm still toying with the idea of a Theah/Ravenloft crossover.

Any other ideas on this?

Sorcery in Theah came from the (former) Senate making pacts with infernal creatures (either Demons or Syrneth, not clear which). Vampires could easily be random people who were corrupted by the same forces, or they could be a form of those infernal creatures.

I hate the default MM vampire template, but that's not really my business. As far as a consistent world, the main source of magical power in Theah is sorcery, which comes either from the aforementioned infernal pacts (Sorte, Porte, El Fuego Ardente), or from the land itself (Laerdom, Pyeryem, Glamour Magic). Sorcery doesn't really transfer out of the sorcerors though, so that's kind of a dead end. Going back to the fountain looks like the solution to me.

There is an Eisen branch of magic based out of one evil family that would make a good plot foundation for introducing vampires.

Zerstorung is the name of the sorcery and it specializes in destruction.

Perhaps a weird blending of Zerstorung and Pyeryem would result in Vampires.

Throw in a nasty Syrneth artifact and you got it made.
