The thing is, conventional build wisdom holds that the EK sucks. It's only suitable for filler levels if you need a feat to boost your melee ability and a couple of casting progression levels after that.

I for one don't hold with the conventional wisdom here. I think that EK is great over the long hall. Full BA, 9 caster level progression, and a feat to boot. What is to suck there? It isn't as good as Abjurant Champion which is 5 levels spell progrssion, lots of benefits and full BA. Swiftblade isn't anywhere near as powerful as EK but has an interest for certain builds.
