Swords and Socialites Part 1: The Forgotten Forge

Koren is a bit stunned at first at Grimm's lack of subtlety but in this neighbourhood his instincts kick him into gear as he follows his companion towards the other two. While moving through the crowd he maintains a vigilant eye for the pair of shifters.

To Grimm, Lancel, and Tiberian, "It is as my friend here has so eloquently put it. If you are indeed amenable we will join you in your quest to find your friend as it would appear to be in our mutual best interest. We can discuss the details in a few moments after you have finished."

Leaning casually on the haft of his halberd, Tiberian says, "We're all done here. Our new friend here," he jerks his chin at Skakan, "was just wrapping up business here. I'm ready to get moving before any other rotter here decides he can cadge a quick silver out of me." Tiberian grins crookedly at Lancel.

Tiberian eyes Grim and Koren appraisingly.

Koren waits patiently while Tiberian and Lancel conclude their business with the goblin merchant. As Tiberian sizes up Koren he notes that Koren is tall and skinny sporting long thing raven hair and deep blue eyes. There is something about the well dressed man that just doesnt seem right.

Skakan takes the money, folds up the blankets his merchandise is setting upon, and yells to the other patrons "The Rat's Market will be open tomorrow! We are for now closed!"

Skakan turns to the four of you and says "Ah, come along, Valve cluster E-213 is along this way...come...I will show you."

Skakan leads the four of you through a number of passages, deeper into the Dorasharn tower. Finally he takes you to a starecase that obviously descends even deeper. Here he stops and says "This is where I stop. Go down these stairs and they will take you to the valve cluster. Your luck and success be assured. Thank you for the business." Skakan heads back the way you came, toting his goods along with him.

As the four of you descend the stairs, with each step down, the odor of mold and sewage becomes stronger, and you can hear liquid sounds increasing in volume as you descend.

((OOC. It is very dark here, so you will need a light source. Tell me what source you are using and who is carrying it. The staircase quickly narrows to only be wide enough for one across. Give me marching order.))

"Be on guard, while you were talking to that goblin two shifters were watching you from the crowd. When they had noticed that I spotted them they had disappeared. I have a sunrod, I will carry light." says Koren taking a spot towards the rear.

Grimm, dwarven fighter

Grimm nods seriously and draws out his waraxe of dwarvenkind and readies his shield. Then he will step forward to take the lead "Shfters... humph...thieves or spies I would wonder not. Well then laddies, ye best get yerselves a light and follow me"

He waits for the others to take the lead...

Clearly expecting Lancel to take the lead, Tiberian takes up the rear position in the group's marching order. He scratches thoughtfully at his stubble. The halberd slung across his back creates a metallic susurration against his chainmail hauberk.

When Skakan leaves them, he gets a whiff of the malodorous lower levels and says, "Eugh. Smells a little too much like a healer's tent from the war."

"Grimm, if you will take the lead...."

Lancel falls in behind Grimm, letting the heavily armed dwarf be in a position to take the brunt of any surprises ahead. Lancel does pull out his blade, ready to dispatch any threats.

"I find it hard to complain of the smell of the goblin with the stench of this sewer affronting my nose. Ah well, if smell is the worst thing we have to complain of this adventure, then we shall be getting off easy indeed!"

As you travel down the staircase (order: Grimm, Lancel, Koren, Tiberian...yes?) The walls around you begin to be in worse and worse repair. By the time you have walked down many more steps the walls appear to be little more than piles of rubble holding up the towers above, deeply pitted with many loose stones. Through the light of the sunrod, you all notice a bend in the stairs at last.

Grim, with the rest following close behind, rounds the corner and finds the staircase end almost immediately at the source of the wonderful smell Skakan introduced you all to. The sewers. The channel of water is ten feet wide and barely ankel-deep. It runs swiftly to the east, through a large grate set across the water passage. To the west the water's source spans back to the limit of vision, as Koren is still around the bend.

Grim steps foward into the passage a bit, allowing room for the others to file out of the stairway. As Koren steps into the sewage, and Tiberian nearly takes his last steps off of the staircase, the four of you hear rocks and morter shifting behind Tiberian. A Warforged jumps from a concealed depression in the wall, striking at Tiberian from the shadows, his rapier piercing the air with deadly efficiency, slipping in-between the links of Tiberian's chainmail, stunning him in both surprise and pain. (Crit+Sneak Attack, 9 damage)

At the same moment, the light of Koren's sunrod shines down the passageway, illuminating two shadowy forms standing roughly 60 feet (west) upstream, their outlines clear to Grim, Lancel, and Koren.

The setup: Grim and Lancel are next to each other in the sewer channel (Grim 1 square north of Lancel) with 60 feet in between them and the shadowy forms. Koren is standing in the water immediately east of Lancel. To Koren's immediate east is the sewer grate, and to his immediate south, Tiberian in the stairway. To the immediate south of Tiberian, the Warforged attacker.

Initiative: Tiberian (20), Grim (16), Shifter Thugs (14), Sewer Spew (12), Warforged Assassin (10), Lancel (9), Koren (5)

OOC: I NEED to stop starting all of my sneak attacks with a crit! At least you won Initiative Shieldhaven. Okay, lets start posting these combat rounds. Roll for yourselves. I trust you!

Koren turns quickly to see the rapier sticking out of Tiberian, hearing the warforged moments too late. Focusing quickly he launches a devasting mental blast at the living construct, hoping that it succumbs.
