The new rule is "attacker rolls all the dice". Doesn't matter if you are attacking with a weapon or a force power or whatever. The agressor makes all the rolls. Traps and poisons and the like will have an attack bonus and roll to hit the character's defense.Jurble said:Hey guys,
so getting a game of SWSE going hopefully pretty soon, its just coming together at the moment. I was making up character sheets with some friends the other day and it seems like saves are static numbers rather than roll modifiers??
First of all, he only gets 1/2 his heroic level as a bonus to skill checks. The other thing is I have a question. I have a player playing a droid whose from the start taking use computer as trained plus putting on skill focus. He's got a nice ability modifier to pump that up to a base of 15!! (lvl 3 char!) So basically anything short of requiring 25 at least is going to be easy pickings.
5 (trained) + 5 (skill focus) + 2 (14INT) + 3 (lvl3 char) = 15!
Secondly, the good news is that he has now prety much maxed out his skill. From here on out he will only get level increases to his check. By spending both a trainning pick, and a feat he has said that he wants his character to be "the best" with that skill. And so he is. But he will not get that much better except as he levels.
And for comparison his skill bonus is not that much higher than it would have been if he had decided to tweak his skill in another d20 game. The difference is in another d20 game he would have to min-max racial bonuses, and synergy bonuses and equipment etc in order to get a skill like that. In SWSE they removed all those bonuses and instead give the big +5 for Skill Focus. All they have reall done is made the character build simple for people.
I speak from experience on this one. I had a slicer Tech Specalist in a RCR game who had a +15 Computer Use at 3rd level. Of course he ran into the same problem of hitting his peak. By 6th level his Computer use was only +18 (the GM refused to house-rule in synergy bonuses for 5 ranks in related knowledge skills - guess he didn't want my skill any higher

Hope that helps.
