Tactic against vampire

Noldor Elf

First Post
On our next session our group is going to face a vampire. What would be best tactic? We're currently in abandoned drow outpost somewhere way undergroud. The goup cosist of:

Wood elf Druid 8/Ranger 1 (me)
Wood elf Ranger 8/Rogue 1
Shield Dwarf Fighter 8
Gnome Illusionist 5/Rogue 2
Half-Elf Cleric 4/Wizard 3

Also what druid spells are usefull agains vampire? (So far we have encountered only few minions, the vampire has escaped once from encounter using gaseous form inside obscuring mist)

Scry it during the day time, find it, sneak it into the daylight (assuming it is sleeping).

Cast a whole buncha fire seeds spells and slip them into his coffin and then run away and cast a flame strike.

Get a table leg, sharpen it, and put it into a gnomish motorized thrusting gizmo... Nah... :)

Use Scry to find him.

Use Soften Earth and Stone to turn his dirt into mud (more for fun than anything else).

Use Wood Shape to transmute one of his coffin-lid planks into a wooden stake. Drive it into his chest.

Actually, I was halfway serious... I think it would work, if you can keep him from moving, a sustained geyser of water should cause running water damage.

I don't think so. In this useage, "running water" refers to open groundwater - rivers and streams, rather than any flow of water. If you try to extend it, things get sticky. Vampires would be easily recognizable, as washing becomes hazardous, even if he uses a basin of still water ("Omigod! The water is running off my hands! It Burns!") Not to mention being out in the rain - each drop can be said to be running down, etc.

Spellwise your party is short a few caster level to gain some of the most optimum anti-vampire spell.

Searing light and Wall of Fire come to mind.

Searing Light deals 1D8/level without DC against a vampire and and Wall of Fire deals double damage against undead.

Since save DC is not a concern for these spells, you might wish to acquire wands and scrolls.

Someone played Rifts :)

I never liked the idea that "water in motion" should hurt a vampire. The first thunderstorm at night to come along would kill them all

The vampire has to be immersed in running water. Rain or bathing would not hurt it. The geyser power of the decanter of endless water is only 1 foot wide. It would not be enough to immerse most vampires on its own, although clever characters might find a way to employ it to create enough running water in order to immerse the creature.

Also, using Wood Shape to make stakes out of his coffin lid is a perfectly reasonable and poetic way for a druid to slay a vampire. The hard part is getting him in his coffin and finding it in time to kill him before he regenerates.
