My thread on cleaning old game stuff reminded me of a case where I wanted to preface a published item with my own start rather than use the publishers intended start and ended up creating something far more complicated than the published material.
In this case, I liked the Under world modules (U1-3 ending with Lloth) and didn't like the Giant series (G1-3) that was intended to lead to it. So I made my own dwarven city called Morkhelek that sat part on the surface world and part below. I ended up making a huge, detailed city that was far more material than the G modules it replaced and the U modules it was met to kick off.
Ever do something like that? Try to incorporate someone else's material and end up making the incorporated material insignificant or dispensed with altogether?
