That's certainly possible. Though I think the idea behind it is common enough.

Alright, here's what I have in mind.Jdvn1 said:Ooh, tell us about your Eberron game!

Sounds like a blast! I haven't had an opportunity, yet, to play Eberron. Still waiting.Darkness said:The other PCs aren't finished yet so I couldn't plan any personalized nastiness for them so far. (There likely will be only one more at first anyway.)
Well, that's a very rough overview.

Reminds me of my character that was hunted down, tortured (scarred from head to toe, toes cut off, cheek punctured, meager food, et cetera), drug behind a horse, poisoned... and a bunch more nasty things...Cyberzombie said:I often give my characters fu... er, messed up backgrounds and let the DM have at it. Third, I like to empower my players. I like PCs to be respected heroes, often following plots fitting their background and personality. My plots (PC-related or not) are usually structured along the lines of "this happens unless the PCs interfere. If they do, the following resources are also available to be used against them."
Fourth, power comes at a price. The price the PCs have to pay for being respected heroes is pain, and their players know it. Many NPCs might well defer to the PCs – but the villains are even more impressive than the PCs and also like to hit them where it hurts. Victory is often bitter-sweet. You might win, but you probably bought the victory with your life – or at least your health, freedom, love, power, integrity, etc. Defeat is… worse. And very possible. Also, captured PCs can look forward to horrifying torture, eventually a gruesome death and, if possible, the desecration of their body and/or soul.
