Tales From Algernon's Amazing Archmagical Academy!

Clipper turns and points the key at the open doorway and hits the button again. If this does not close the doorway, he'll look at Keiran, since he's sitting closest to the door and say, "Close the hatch, would you?"

That settled as far as he's concerned, he'll turn to Jem and say, "Okay. Looks like we've got levers to go up and down and pitch and rotate, accelerate/decelerate, etc. All the usual stuff. We should quite obviously start with this." He then grabs the shovel looking one and twists it to the left.

Jem, elated with the situation, surveys his controls with a hungry eye. He naturally finds himself drawn towards the 'DO NOT PULL' lever with an almost irrestistable desire, but with a spectacular display of self control he tells himself that the time will come for the delightful consummation of his instinctive love for that particular lever. In the meantime, he excitedly fingers the other levers but refrains from actually working any of them. He's got just enough sense to realise that Judyth's suggestion is a good one, it seems, though he certainly wouldn't have had enough to think of it himself, and so he waits for the door to be closed one way or the other. In response to Clipper's briefing he just shrugs good naturedly. "Sure. sounds like a pretty decent plan to me. Go for it!"

Clipper turns and points the key at the open doorway and hits the button again.

<CHIRP>

The crab chirps once, but the hatch remains open.

The shovel-handle-looking handle is apparently already twisted all the way to the left, so you twist it to the right instead. You feel the crab begin to vibrate ever so slightly as you do, and a faintly audible hum trills through the cabin.

OOC: Wow, who knew this adventure would be so monumentous! Too bad the crab doesn't have turn signals that Clipper or Jem could leave on for 23 miles.

OOC: Yeah, apparently, instead, we're going to invent "driving with your door open"

Having gotten a reaction from the machine, Clipper smiles wide at Jem. "A good start! I think you need to work a lever now."

Clipper said:
"A good start! I think you need to work a lever now."

Kieran is staring off into space and says to himself (but loud enough that other people could hear if they were paying attention to him)...

'I used to work my lever... but my father told me I'd go blind.'

He then subconsciously squirms in his seat as his full bladder "talks" to him as it were.

When Clipper mentions to him to close the hatch in the floor, Kieran turns around in his seat and takes a look at it to see what he can do (if anything) to do so. If he can grab or push something to close the hatch he'll try it. If there is nothing for him to manipulate (because the hatch door is on the outside or slides within the frame of the vehicle), he'll face forward in his seat again and shrug and shake his head to Clipper.

Keiran doesn't find anything to manipulate per se (I'm assuming you mean a lever or button or something, maybe even labeled "Pull this to close hatch"), as the hatch just hangs down off its hinges, perpendicular to the bottom of the crab.

IF Clipper notices Keiran's actions and the way the hatch is hanging open, he'll say, "Is there a handle or strap to grab hold of and just pull it shut?"

Of course, if he doesn't notice what's going on (since he's really not paying much attention to it, figuring that the big guy will figure it out), then he'll not say anything about it.

Jem grins. "Work a lever huh? Alright, I reckon I can manage that." He surveys his selection of levers once more and pouts a little. "Hmph. Looks like you've got all the fun ones that move us around and stuff. Oh well... let's see what this one does." With that encouraging sentiment, Jem pulls the leftmost lever, the one with the eye icon. He wouldn't admit to such logical thinking if asked - it would take a good part of the fun out - but he figures that this must be the one that lets them see where they're going somehow or other.

Aeryl settles in next to Judyth and slouches in his seat. "Wake me when we don't get there" he says with a wink to Judyth.

Judyth Longbottom : Female Half-Orc Apprentice 3

Judyth squirms in her seat. Then she looks back down at the still open hatch.

"Uh! Are you guys gonna get the hatch closed or not. And when are we gonna get going. Do you need me to get out and push? Perhaps I should just walk, I would get there faster. And about there, where are we going exactly?"
