Kieran looks behind him at the hatch that is situated between Aeryl and Judyth. As both of them look back at him, he drops his eyes down to the pair of doors hanging open down beneath the crab. He gets off the chair, moves to the hatch, then reaches his arm down to grab one of the doors. If the door swings easily, he pulls it shut up towards him, then reaches down to do the other one (trying his best to avoid catching his fingers when he does). If neither hatch door moves from pulling on it, then he goes back to his seat and shrugs to the halfling up front.

(Awesome.)

Clipper's got that lever with arrows front and back pushed all the way forward. He yanks on it a couple times and slaps it forward violently. "C'mon!"

As Clipper pushes the lever forward, the crab moves in that direction, although slowly. (It felt like some gears caught when the lever moved forward, and that it isn't the position of the lever that controls the speed. You figure this is controlled most likely by twisting the shovel-handled control.)

You all can feel the many legs of the contraption scuttling around, but the ride itself is quite smooth, considering. The crab slowly glides into the dark water, and the surface of the underground lake is soon above your heads. Despite the transparent roof, you can't see a whole lot down here, as it is rapidly getting very dark the deeper you go.

Judyth Longbottom : Female Half-Orc Apprentice 3

Judyth notices the light quickly fading.

"Oh great. Can someone turn on a lamp or something? How are we going to see where we are going without light?"

Kieran looks up and around all confused.

'Why's it so dark? Water's clear! Where's the light go? This must be some kind of special water Professor Algernon cooked up, because usually I can see through the water. But at least we're moving. You guys need to get your act together if we hope to accomplish this thing... I was ready an hour ago!'

He crosses his arms and smirks... to which the rest of the occupants just roll their eyes at him.

As the lights dim Jem realises now would be a good time to pull the lever marked with a lantern. He toys with the idea of 'accidentally' pulling the rightmost lever instead, but he decides against it on the grounds that the effect will probably be more dramatic later on. He'll trust in his instincts to tell him exactly when the time has come.

For now, he yanks on the 'lantern' lever.
