Tales From Algernon's Amazing Archmagical Academy!

"He's got the key thing, wise-ass" say Aeryl gesturing to the successful Clipper.

"Good enough," Jem chirps, and then wasting no more time rushes to follow Clipper into the crab. Once inside he sits himself down on the closest seat to the controls (bar the one that Clipper's already taken), legs crossed and wide, starry eyes staring hungrily at the controls.

The hatch opens easily, revealing a few steps molded into the inside of the port. Clipper scrambles up them quickly, followed closely by Jem - who is thrilled to find that there appear to be two drivers' seats! At least, there are two seats in the front of the compartment, both of which have five levers arrayed in front of them. Behind these seats are four more seats. There do not appear to be any windows.

Taking a seat, Clipper greets the remaining students on board: "Ah, yes, welcome, please join us. Yes, yes, very good, have a seat. Nyyesss."

==========

OOC: Please let me know where everyone sits; there are three rows of two seats each, with the two driver seats in front. The hatch opens up in the floor between the two rearmost seats.

Judyth Longbottom : Female Half-Orc Apprentice 3

Judyth moves over to Kieran and points at the hatch in the crab's belly.

"There! That is how we get in, is it not Kieran?"

Knowing that he would never accept help from her, she forms her statement into a question. Then she will wait for him to point it out to her before entering. She will take either of the seats in the back if it is available.

Clipper shares Jem's excited, starry eyes, until he sees the controls. He then looks at Jem with an almost scared look. "Er, looks like we'll both be driving." He then looks for any instructions or manual or anything in any "secret" panels (such as a small door near the controls within which one could convieniently place gloves, or perhaps above a flap overhead that may be lowered to keep the sun from one's eyes--were there a front window).

Aeryl will wait until the crash of over-eager people gets in and then enter and take whatever seat is available, preferably in the rear.

She points underneath and up towards the hatch in the crabs bottom, and Kieran bends over to look at where she's pointing. His eyes narrow at what he sees, especially after Clipper and Jem climb up and in. Kieran shakes his head.

'Nope. Wrong. Doors don't belong on the floor. Once those legs collapse, we're stuck inside. Bad contruction. My father was an engineer and he'd never trust something like this. Not gonna do it.'

He stands there with his arms crossed, even after Judyth shrugs and climbs inside. He turns to Aeryl, and the elf gives him a sardonic smile and little wave before climbing inside the crab as well. Kieran stands there for a few seconds... the only one of the group still outside the crab... and looks around the stalls. What he's looking for, or what he's expecting to happen, we don't know. He looks back at the vehicle and says...

'I need to pee.'

What exactly that has to do with anything involving this situation is a mystery. What is even a bigger mystery is why he then ducks down and climbs up inside the crab and sits in the middle row WITHOUT actually peeing first. Apparently he's never ridden in a closed vehicle like this where he couldn't just go over the side if he needed to (unlike a wagon for example). But it seems as though he's put himself into position to be the first person in history to yell to the driver "BUT I REALLY NEED TO GO!" and have the driver reply "WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU GO BEFORE WE LEFT?!?"

With his quarterstaff across his knees, Kieran Salbrith has set himself up to be a part of the annals of history... whether he knows it or not.

Looking a little fidgety  , Keiran finally takes a seat.

Jem finds five levers arrayed in front of him, a row of three above two others. The two lower levers, upon closer inspection, have what look to be buttons on the tops of the handle, that you could work with your thumb. They also look to be fixed in circular, domish settings. The upper three levers are simple up/down levers, above which appear three small icons: above the leftmost lever is an eye, the center lever has what looks like a lantern, and the rightmost lever has a panel next to it that reads, "DO NOT PULL THIS LEVER".

Clipper's levers are arranged similarly, although with three levers under a row of two. The bottom left lever looks to move forward and back, the bottom center can move left and right, and the bottom right moves forward and back. All three of these sit centered in the slots, and double-pointed arrows sit alongside the slots (and point in the same direction as the slot). The leftmost top lever is different than any others, it actually looks like the top of a shovel handle and looks like you twist it rather than pull it up or down. The rightmost lever also has a panel next to it that reads, "DO NOT PULL THIS LEVER".

It is fairly dark inside the crab; the only light is from the open hatchway in the floor.

Judyth Longbottom : Female Half-Orc Apprentice 3

Judyth sits for a moment once Keiran is in his seat. She looks around and down out the still open hatch.

"Shouldn't we be going some where? But first we need to close the hatch. Why don't you try that key again? We haven't all day."

OOC: And thus is born the back seat driver.
