Then there's Dungeons & Dragons. I played this game in High School many eons ago, and I did a big feature last year on the history of the game, but I hadn't seen or played a game in I don't know how long. I spent some time with Charles Ryan, Wizards of the Coast's brand manager for Dungeons & Dragons. According to him, last year's 30th anniversary was a huge boon for the game. Between six and six-and-a-half million players currently play the game, more than played in the mid-'80's when most of the country was talking about it. The press coverage given to the game has also caused a lot of lapsed players to suddenly want to pick up the game again. So many, in fact, that targeting these folks is one of their main focuses over the next few years. I never thought of myself as one of them, but I did walk away with a new version of the Basic Set. Maybe it's something to consider.
