Tarrasque Adventure Ideas

Naw, the Orc is a 20th level Wizard/Paladin Half-Celestial Orc...of Legacy! Hmm, is that Legacy crap dead yet?

Tarrasque of Legacy. That would tie it in with one of their newest books too. Clever, eh?

I did this one once.

I had an evil cult summon up the Tarrasque as a means of taking over the city. As the thing lumbered towards the city destroying everything in its path, the cultists planned to take advantage of the distraction to seize power, then magically 'vanquish' the beast and be hailed as heroes. The PCs' objective was not to kill the Tarrasque (they wouldn't have had a chance) but to stop the cultists and send it back where it came from before it killed everyone and destroyed everything.

They did.

A half-elven mage driven from his home and forced to live among the "lesser races" due to his species, has devised a plan to get revenge at the elven nation who condemed his family for willingly mixing human and elf blood. By stealing a scroll of suggestion and getting a noble elven child in the capital of the elven nation of Turmok to put a portable hole into a bag of holding, he created a two way gate to the astral plane. Creatures began pouring out, and chaos ensued.

8 months later, the elves have lost most of their land and people, and their neighboring nations refuse to aid them due to the elves hostile attitude to other races, although some members from the nations have come to help the elves. The few mages left have discussed that by freeing an ancient, powerful beast from it's slumber (the tarrasque), they could guide it to clear a path to the capital and give them a chance to close the portal. They face fierce opposition from not only the creatures from the astral plane, but from what could happen if they fail to control the creature. The site is rather far from the elves war camp, but the magics guarding the place would take great heroes to survive, and so the king has asked that that any who are brave enough to step forth.

Well for those who enjoy long story arcs - I had the following idea.

At low levels the party is roped into helping a village find a book titled "Taming the Tarrasque"

The librarian hides a book every year as part of a festival. An older, odd sort of a fellow who likes riddles, he always plants several clues and the ensuing treasure hunt for the book is a highlight of the festival.

This year though, A high level evil wizard appears on the scene and demands the book. When the librarian refuses the wizard turns the librarian to stone, changes him to a bit of ooze - well just any old thing to get him out of the way for a bit. He is infuriated when none of the townspeople know where the book is and imposes a time limit.

In three days he'll return and wreak havock unless he's given the book.

Enter the heros who must solve the riddles and find the book to give the wizard.

Then later on the heros gain levels, many levels and find they must fight the wizard who is parading across the continent encamped in howdah castle on the back of the beast. (There is a picture in an old Dungeon titled Beasts of Burden I believe that was quite inspiring.)
