"Best not to discuss the details in public," Rupert warns the interested parties. "We don't want competitors snatching the prize out from under our noses, do we?"

"We shall retire to the private room, and enjoy a bit of refreshment while we discuss the particulars of the job I am offering." Rupert leads the way to the back room.

ooc-I'd like to try a Bardic Knowledge check to see if I've ever heard of this Rupert Vaneelkelen, and for what he might be known for...+3 (+1 for first level bard, +2 intelligence)

Bardic Knowledge check: 13 +3 = 16.

Result:
Rupert Vaneelkelen is an inheritor of a fortune so vast as to make him independently weathly. No one seems to know how his family actually made its seemingly unending fortune, but speculation abounds... Various merchantile ventures, piracy, alchemical processes, deals with demons and so on.

He spends most of his time and money satisfying fabulously expensive and eccentric pet projects and hobbies. He has been the patron of a great many adventurers in the past, and more of them have become rich because of it than haven't.

A few moments after the potential treasure hunters have ajourned, the door opens again, and a young woman enters. Her delicate features and pointed ears proclaim an elvish heritige, but her hair is black and her eyes darker than most humans. She is dressed in sensible traveling clothes and wears only two ornaments - a small carved talisman of an oaktree, and a heavy signet ring, which a sharp observer may notice is made of oddly base metals, rather than gold. A light crossbow is slung over her shoulder, and a coiled whip hangs from her belt. Crossing to the bar, she says warmly "Joe, I took the liberty of checking in on Nibbles before I came in, thank you for taking such good care of him. I promise that my next trip won't be to sea." Before he can begin to adminish her, she turns from the counter and addresses the Inn as a whole in a voice obviously trained to public speaking. "And greetings again to all who come to the Red Dragon. I am Katherine DeSylvia, and I offer my skills as a translator, scribe and entertainer for free, and as a seeker of that both lost and hidden on very reasonable terms." She smiles and turns back to sit at the main bar. "And now, if I could have a very large glass of cider and something to eat with no fish or salted pork in it whatsoever, I would be a happy woman."

Joe advises Katherine that there is a man in the back room with a very large, complimentary meal laid out, who is looking for some treasure hunters to hire.

Here I came!

As the treasure hunters continued their discussion, a young man open the inn's door. With his standard military chain mail, he seem like a common guardsman. His hair is cut short and tidy as by military standard. However, the young adventurer carry a unusual weapon, a dire flail.

As he came in, after being directed by the barmaids, he head towards the bartender, Joe. After a few minute chatting and drinking, he nodded as Joe said something.

Facing the inn crowd, Gerald shouted "My name is Gerald Swordlash, fighter and alchemist at your service, fellows.I'm skilled in detecting as well as making *ahem* unusual liquids and I'm skilled in weaponry". He added with a wry grin "I'm also in need of a job".After that, he sit down, taking time to finish his tankard of ale.
As he did that, he asks Joe if there is anyone in need of a fighter.

The tavern door opens and a man strides through, obviously with a purpose. After taking a moment to survey the interior, he clears his throat and makes a declaration.

"My name is Devlin Magruder and I come looking for an associate or two who would be willing to assist my companions and I on a journey. If you are interested or would like more details, please see me at this table."

With that, Devlin takes a seat at an empty table near the door and signals for one of the servers.

OOC: I am looking for one or two players to join and adventure that's already in progress but has stalled do to player dropout.

The half elf smiles and thanks Joe for the hint before stepping in back.

Ashnar

A man walks through the streets of Orussus, not very strong, but he seems to be toughened, by some event in the past, and some burn marks on his body indicate he was caught in a fire at least once. He courteously asks for directions where an advendurer might find work and rest, and what local customs he should obey. Pointed towards the Red Dragon Inn, and the statue close by, he first pays a visit to the statue.
Really a great work of artisanship, if it was indeed created. And truly a show of power if it is indeed a real dragon. A red dragon. From what I've learned, one of the most powerful creatures in existance - and one of the greatest threats to an ordered society. If it is a real dragon, it is a good thing that it is petrified.
Ashnar looks around the statue to check it in detail before entering the Inn and walking straight up to the barkeeper.
"Greetings! You must be Joe. I have heard much good about you and your inn. I am Ashnar, a mage from the village Otun, and I am honored to meet you." He turns to the guests and gives the same introduction, and adds: "Some of you might look at me with special spells, and note my aura. Let me say that I am not here to cause any trouble. While I am specialized primarily in Evocation spells, I consider protection spells to be of similar importance. No life should be wasted. I would also like to add, if you need someone capable of mental manipulation or illusionism, that I am of no use in these magical fields."
With that, Ashnar sits down, and orders some food and drink.

Walking into the bar, Kitten looks straight ahead the whole time as she walks towards Joe. "Hi..."

She waits a minute before she realizes that Joe probably doesn't recognize her or her voice. It has been a number of years...

"Hi gramps. Long time no see? Been busy as usual I see... and I'm back. I don't want any work or anything, I've lined up my jobs from here till the edge of the world. I'm just dropping by to say hi. I still go by Kitten, just so you know. Not that I havn't grown out of it, but it's a good name to give when you don't know what your supposed to be called."

She glares at the bartender, and slowly gets frustrated. She can't stand how silent Joe is, and she really can't stand how he doesn't seem angry like she remembers him. The anger builds up for a moment, then she turns around and yells at the top of her lungs at the rest of the patrons of the bar, "Fine, you old sloth. I'll just have a seat and abuse your kindness like I always used to. I called you grumpy gramps for a reason!"

Kitten then, much more quietly, explains, "My name is Kat, with a 'K'. And you'll deal with that. I've no reason to say any more on that matter. I'm quiet normally, but I've got a grudge in this room. No reason to worry yourselves about it, as I'm not one to treat kindness in kind. Got that? If you need a hand with any work, and you have the spare loot, my ear is open. Otherwise, bugger off or I'll put a knife through your eye for looking my way."

She then goes and finds an empty place to order up a drink, water of course, and see if theres any useful responses. She returns to her solemn demeanor quickly, throwing off her loud exclamatory attitude.

Ashar cannot help but smile at the bluntness of the woman.
Quite confident, but also seemingly easy to anger. Not easy to manipulate, I would guess. Anger her, and you are marked. Could be worth the trouble to keep track of, though. Useful tool maybe, but certainly hard to use.
He orders a new ale during the moment of silence after her introduction, which reminds him of the silence after his own introduction.
