"Greetings Michael. They call me Lasair. You are welcome at our table to share water with us." Lasair's eyes go starry and relaxed for a moment and then refocus, as she gives a half-smile, "I sense in your Zivaash a synergistic, symbiotic connection to a powerful emotional parasite of some sort, that feeds off of your positive emotions and sends you a portion of the energy it gains from doing so. Are you a templar? Or what they call here a clerk--is that the right word?"

Then more softly to Anton, "M-eye-kel? Is that a common name here? Is that a common name here. I am unused to hearing of humans with an -el ending to their name..."

Anton looks up at the man as he enters and tips his hat. "Yes, of course you may to sit. Welcome -- I am Anton."

Michael's bedroll and shield thump to the ground as he pulls a chair up to the table.
"Pleased to meet you, Anton."
He offers a callused hand for Anton to clasp..

"I'm just a builder, Lasair."
Michael runs a thick thumb over the stone at his throat.
"And as soon as you tell me what Zivaash, synergistic, and symbiotic mean, I might be able to tell you some more."

Then more softly to Anton, "M-eye-kel? Is that a common name here? Is that a common name here. I am unused to hearing of humans with an -el ending to their name..."

"Couldn't tell you if it was a common name here or not. I just got in myself. But I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't. I'm not from anywhere near here...or where you grew up. It's a little village so far away from everything, we have to wait an extra two hours in the morning for sunrise."
He takes a sip from his mead.
"So my brothers Pavel, Donnel, and I learned to milk the cows by ear, and we got pretty sharp of hearing."

"You're a Shaper? Or a Constructor? Amazing!" these words clearly have special meaning to Lasair, as they are emphasised moreso than someone who was just using the lowercase 'constructor.'

"I didn't think that there were any around here! Have you seen...no its impossible..."

"Zivaash, I was just explaining it to my companions here. Let me see how I put it before." She closes her eyes, wracks her eidetic memory, and then repeats verbatim, "It is...hard to explain precisely. It is the astral wind that swirls around a person's soul, carrying an ineluctable imprint of their being. It is an eddy carrying immaterial but crystalline shards of spirit through the aether."

"Synergistic? It means 'Of or related to the interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.' "

"And symbiotic means 'Of or related to a relationship of mutual benefit or dependence.' "

"I suppose they do not teach these things to Shapers in your lands? Of course, I am not used to a Shaper who is connected to a benign parasite, and I am most intrigued."

When two Paradigms collide

"You're a Shaper? Or a Constructor? Amazing!" these words clearly have special meaning to Lasair, as they are emphasised moreso than someone who was just using the lowercase 'constructor.'

"No, I'm just a Builder."
Michael pronounces it differently this time. The capital letter is more audible.
"I just started working for Sela."

"I didn't think that there were any around here! Have you seen...no its impossible..."

"Well that would be a good reason for me to come here, wouldn't it?"

Michael looks around nervously, expecting a series of small tornadoes to spring up inside the inn at any moment.

"Synergistic? It means 'Of or related to the interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.' "
"And symbiotic means 'Of or related to a relationship of mutual benefit or dependence.' "

"Now hang on just a minute with this parasite business. Let's think for a moment. When I think about parasites, I think about things like chiggers, or ticks, or bedbugs...maybe leeches. What do those things all do?"

Not much appreciating the Socratic pedantry in the patronising rhetorical question of the person who had just needed to ask her for definitions for common words, and who had indeed missed the point, Lasair is nevertheless diplomatic, "Parasites can be symbiotic as well as detrimental. Witness the Mitar, tiny beings that live inside you and have become as one with your body, allowing you to gain energy from that which you consume."

Michael begins to consider leaving this discussion for tomorrow, after he's had time to memorize a Comprehend Languages spell. But he's not going to let someone get away with referring to his goddess as a parasite so easily.
"Actually, I've never witnessed a Mitar, so I couldn't rightly say. At least in my little village, though, we use the word parasite to refer to something that makes a living by sucking off of others...or at least doesn't pay its way.
If anything, I'm the parasite. But I try to give back my little bit as best I can."

"You are the emotional parasite's beneficiary, rather than one who has been victimised. It seems that the parasite can only live by feeding off of the emotional tie to others, but the one who donates those emotions benefits synergistically from the link. Seems like a win-win situation to me, but really, I wouldn't know. As I've said, I've never seen anyone like you before. To make a pact like that with some sort of entity, you must be quite a remarkable man."

Anton grabs Michael's forearm and shakes, "Indeed. What is it that brings you to this area, Michael? What is it that a Builder like yourself will do with your time?"

With a nod, Anton considers the question, "Well, it may depend. I think a the name of a person will vary by the region he is from, or with the people he will grow with. It is even possible his culture is related that of the Elves."

"I was going to help build some houses, build some towns, and generally help some people. And just from talking to this lady, I find out I have to have an etherial wind blow through my soul and synergistically contribute to a symbiosis with a benign astral parasite.
If I'm gonna be this busy, I'd better make sure I get a room for the night, cause I'll need the sleep."

Michael blushes.
"It's not that difficult, really. You just decide it's important and continue deciding it's important.
She makes it easy, really."
He looks grateful when Anton takes his hand and asks him simpler questions.
