Congratulations, you just broke the cleric

"What's a god? Is it like a cat? Becuase it sounds like its dog spelled backwards, so when you said it, I thought it might be a cat. But then, placing it in context of your sentence, it seems you refer to your Sela is one. So Sela is a cat parasite? Or should I just call her a 'goddess' as you say?"

"As for good deeds, it is my credo to live by good and thus bring forth good into the world."

It is Michael's great misfortune to hear this as he leans back in his chair and takes a deep drink of mead.
His gasp of amazement mixes with jawdropping astonishment to start a fit of coughing, which gets mead up his nose and causes him to sneeze.
Attempting to resolve all things things at once is a little too much for him in his unstable position, and he falls backward, mail, warhammer, pack, and shield rattling to the ground like a dropped smithy. He lies there for a moment, then sits up in the puddle of mead.
"Could you say that one more time, please? I've been having some trouble understanding you."

Lasair gasps, "It is truly as Anton has said. My words are harmful. Oh, stupid! Stupid!" She turns her stool away and puts her cloak around her, huddling alone."

After sitting in silence the entire time, just listening to the bantering, Artemis finally looks up from his armor. The spot he had been working on looks good as new, with absolutely none of the luster lost.

Artemis leans over to Lassir and begins trying to console her. "Ma'am, I do not believe that you were trying to be cruel with your words. It seems you don't have much understanding of the realm of religion; however, these 'parasites' you speak of are held in high regard by the man sitting across the table. Calling this...". Artemis trails off, searching for the proper wording. The process seems to cause him a slight discomfort. "deity a parasite would be along the lines of me calling your best friend a parasite."

Seemingly pleased with the explanation he gave, Artemis looks up at Michael. "Good to meet you, Michael. My name is Artemis Freeman."

"Parasite is no term of disrespect." Lasair says offhandedly, still turned away and huddled in her cloak, "Indeed my...my...my 'best friend' as you say is very much a parasite."

Waiting

Michael clatters to his feet.
"No, really, I'm allright. Well, my armor is a little sticky, but it'll clean up."
He pigeontoes delicately around the table and stools until he is directly in front of Lasair.
"Lasair? No harm done. Just a little surprised and kinda clumsy."

"Lasair? Can we talk?"
(Michael reflects sadly that the ninth level spell comprehend female is completely out of reach.)

He sits down on the floor and fixes his eyes on the front of her hood.
"I'm just going to wait here until you come out."

"I am being unkind with the words? My apologies, good sirs! I simply did not understand your customs. Pardon me if I had offended. I guess I should not have assumed that you wished to hear me speak, and would not consider my conversation unkind. It is merely that we have shared water. But I suppose I was a naive fool to assume that the world would share my customs. If you are finding my words hurtful, then I will leave you alone immediately."
"No no, Lasair," Anton starts, pauses, then starts again, "Your way of speech is difficult for some to understand. You use some complicated words, you see. Such complication can be painful."

"A god, you say? Think of the most powerful person you may know. Imagine that he is one hundred times as powerful. That is not even one tenth the power of a god. They are beings of great might and power that oversee various parts of the world. People give respect to these deities in the hopes that they will look kindly upon them. They vary greatly in personalities, you see."

"Then...my words are not hurtful. Merely abstruse and recondite? If true, then this is most joyous!"

She turns to Michael. "Whether or not Anton is merely humouring my incompetence with kind words, I have Jal towards you for insulting your Sela, whom according to Anton you believe to have much more power than the Zarach, and ruining your expensive metal armour." She pulls down her hood and says, "Therefore, talk I shall, until such time as your desire has been fulfilled."

Michael considers comprehend female is probably one of those epic spells out of legend he's never going to get to cast.
He further considers that it sounds like "abstruse" and "recondite" translate roughly as "highly educated wizard talk" and reminds himself to ask for a comprehend languages spell.
"Where are you from, Lasair?"

"I am...not from around here...Like you. Although I must admit we did not train our hearing with cows. Your land sounds like a strange and wondrous place, where even the celestial orb need halt for two hours extra to give you peace and reprieve from the day's heat. Do you channel the energy to do this yourself, or have your people found a way to make a pact with the sky as well as with the Sela?"
