"I wouldn't doubt it, my great grand-father came from beyond the sea, and he, how to say this, was prolific with the ladies," Ilion chuckles before taking another sip of the brew.

He introduces himself to the new arrivals with a (less akward) handshake.

"So since there seems to be no interesting job offers at the time, what say we do something to occupy the time?" Ilion suggests, "I'm from Riem, far south. Where is everyone else from?"

"Way away in the west. The village doesn't even have a name, it's so tiny. Three farms, a shrine to the gods, and a mostly retired stonemason."

Jaan Saresaar of Orsilia

Jaan leans against the counter and considers his next move. Staying here serves no purpose. But then, he has already done all that he can elsewhere. He catches the attention of one of the staff.

"An ale please. And something to eat. Fish perhpas, if you have it." Jaan glances around the room. "I'll be over there," he adds, indicating an unoccupied and out of the way table. He places the necesary coins on the countertop.

Jaan shifts the stool so he can lean against the wall. He wraps himself up in his cloak, and his thoughts. Which are, moments later, interuped as the one called Sunny Perriwinkle is deposited none to gently, nor quietly, on his ass. Jaan watches in amazement as the man proceeds to measure the door and declare it too low. Who indeed?

The man is a buffoon. A farmer who has found a sword and decided to seek fame and glory. Jaan finds himself liking the man already. Jaan watches as Sunny gestures over his beer, and a icy crust forms. On the other hand, there are not many farmers who can do that. An spellcaster with a bastard sword. Not an everyday sight. Except perhaps at the Red Dragon ...

Jaan lets his thoughts drift back to his own concerns.

ooc: Nice entrance two.

"As for the joke, well, ... Honestly, that's about as much as I can remember. It was an old one from my Nanny, and my Nanny, well -- she wasn't very realiable. I mean, I loved her and everything (when she wasn't hitting the bottle), but the stories should would tell! She would start them, stop them, check the oatmeal, gossip with a neighbor, then return and finish telling the story, but it was a different story from the one she started. Difficult woman, difficult. Nanny. Oh, the memories.

But enough about my nanny! What are you doing in this rather low-grade tavern, sipping what appears to be lukewarm hop-vomit?"

"Well, I've lived with the Freefolk all my life, so I don't supposed I'd have what you might call a propper home. We wander quite a bit, so I've been all over, but never for long. Didn't exactly mean to part ways with them, but even Mongrel wandered alone, so it looks like it's my time to wander for a while, and perhaps find some new family."

Vanitri peers over to Rosalynn, "Looks like a bit of the old family followed along however. Definately good to see a familiar face in my wanderings"

"Never heard of the Freefolk, to be honest," Ilion says frankly, "Who are they?".

That sounds nice. I mean, a proper home. I do know about that wandering itch you get. I had it too. Tried lots of corn powder, but it kept right on itchin'. The only thing that made it better was packing my bags so pack them I did.

You might not know this, but I'm a orphan -- oh, not in the normal sense of the word. I've got 10 brothers and 10 sisters, after all, and my parents are alive and well. But all the same, I'm a orphan...

[Sunny looks into his beer and begins to wax maudlin]

When you are the 10th son, and the 20th child of a happy and fertile pair, your arrival isn't much noticed. In fact, I used to be able to sneak away for weeks...the only way they noticed I was gone was the fact that my chores weren't getting done. Them pigs always gave me away; they started starving, can you beleive it? Anyway, I'd always go back... to the camp. That's what I called it, "the camp," more like I was just biding my time. Oh my Mamma did her best, as did Daddy... it wasn't like they didn't try...

[begins to wax even more maudlin...]

It's just that never was...there was never time for ME... it was always somebody else, somebody was sick or busted his head open, never time for Sunny...

[sniffles and begins to weep a little; a drop of mucus hangs from the end of his nose]

Anyway --

[rubs the mucus away with the back of his hand]

anyway, enough about my past. Best just think of me as an orphan. Yes, an orphan, cast out upon the world. You know that song?

"Oh me, oh my, a cherry pie,
thrown to the winds, by and by,
cast out, and out, and up and out,
cast away like a sickly little lout."

[sniffles again suddenly]

Gets me right HERE! [Sunny bangs his heart with a fist in response to this doggeral]

Sorry neighbor, didn't mean to offend you --

[banging his heart with his fist raised a dust cloud from his dirty coat which puffed over the entire table.]

Sorry, Vanitri -- my apologies.

[Sunny waves his hand ineffectually attempting to clear away the dust.]

"I guess you'd call us gypsys. Live in a caravan, traveling from town to town." Vanitri sighs, "Tis a good life, being free of constraints, needing only to worry about your family. A true celebration of life and comradery. You won't find anyone else out there as warm and welcoming as the Freefolk."

Sorry, Vanitri -- my apologies.
"Tis alright. Guess I must be lucky to have the caravan. All the family I've ever had or have ever needed. I'm not sure I ever knew my parents, but I had a proper raising. I was always cared for, and since I was able I've made sure my family was cared for."

Vanitri rests his hand on Sunny's shoulder "Mongrel used to say that family's anywhere ya find it. Perhaps you'll find your true family out in your wanderings." Vanitri points over to Roselynn "Ya see that pretty little thing over there? She's my lil'sis. I doubt we share a drop of blood between us, but don't matter. We take care of each other, and that's what matters."

...snip...
"Sounds nice, I never did travel much. Always wanted to see the tops of the mountains," Ilion rambles off topic. He ponders for a bit while drinking.

Michael raises a hand quietly.
"Where are the Free-folk bound next? I'm looking to see interesting parts of the world and do something worthwhile along the way.
I'm a pretty fair doctor and farrier with a strong back.
And I'm willing to wash dishes."
He smiles.

"No harm done," Lasair smiles and laughs gently, "Were I a Holdmistress in my land, such might provoke a water feud between our families, but I am simply a stranger in a strange land, and here, I think, they do not care about such things..."

Rosalynn took her drink that had been offered, smiled and tilted her head cutely. "I'm nearly always a stranger in a strange land. I've been with Vanitri and the Freefolk so long, I've never really had a land to call my own." She admitted, though she did not seem sad about it at all.

"Please excuse me, I need to get back to my big brother. I have missed him so." She gave a curtsy to Lasair and skittered off like a little fairy.

She heard the last bit as she wanded up and leaned on his shoulder. "Whatcha talking about big brother.?" She asked, even though she knew. She grinned at the company surrounding him sipping her drink, her green mischivous eyes peering over the cup.

Vanitri replies to Michael "I wish I knew. I was seperated from the caravan a while ago, and been wandering on my own since. Tis alright, just must have been my time to wander on my own." Vanitri sees Roselynn walking over, "Well, guess not completely on my own..."

"Oh, not much lil'sis. Apparently there's folks here who've never heard of the Freefolk. Just been telling them about the life." Vanitri kicks back, smiles, and sips his drink.
