[Tavern Thread] The Dunn Wright Inn

Saranna Surefoot 1st-level Rogue

Saranna watches as the strange gnome invites another person, a strange but woman of some beauty. As she is seated in a strange seat the halfling listens to her comment and then says when the gnome leaves the room, "It is best not to try to reason with him. He has some strange notions and seems to think his way is the right way."

She then bows her head in greeting, "It is an honor to meet you Arianna. I am Saranna Surefoot."

She sips the last of her drink and picks at some of the offered food.

Arianna (Mystery 1)

"Don't all men." she says smiling. "It's best to let them believe they are in control. Then you can dump all the failures on them, while reaping the rewards from the successes."

"The honor is mine." Trying the cheese, she finds it too stiff and gooey for her liking, and goes back to the grapes.

Thuvian, shadow wizard 1

After making sure that Nora was done and comfortably asleep back in his backpack, Thuvian put the plate back on the table and finished his drink. He then picked up his backpack and cloak and made his way back to the room indicated by the gnome. "Is the meeting place for those of us being recruited to save that gnome's sanity?" He asks dryly before setting his gear down in a quiet corner.

"He, or at least some voice that chose to inhabit his body, gave me some information, but no details. Then he huffed off after I explained that Nora doesn't care to eat in public, and forcing her to do so usually ends badly." Not having such concerns himself, Thuvian helps himself to some of the snacks on the table as he waits for the strange gnome to return to the room.

The door opens, and in walks the gnome, awkwardly carrying an over-sized tankard in both hands. "My apologies for disappearing - ahh, I see you've joined us, good sir! - but I don't make it into the city often, so I wanted to enjoy its pleasures whilst I had the opportunity." Taking a comical sip out of mug, the gnome licked his lips, closed his eyes, and let out a sound of pleasant self-satisfaction. Opening his eyes again, he made his way over to his seat, managing to bound up into the chair with only a minor amount of spillage. After taking another sip, he set the mug down on the table in front of him, and surveyed the trio before him. "Now then," he began, "as I was telling our dour friend here, I am to employ the four of you - we await the arrival of one more, you see - in order to help me locate and obtain an item that was stolen from me that I hold most dear. I will save the details for later, once you've proven yourselves to be capable of the task - fate has brought us together, but it will take more than that to determine our paths - but I thought it only fair to fill you in a bit. Should you have any further questions, I shall be happy to answer them as best I can, as long as doing so won't cause me to violate my aforementioned desire to save the telling of the details of our endeavor for a future point in time." Turning to Arianna, the gnome points to one of the platters of fruit on the table. "Have you tried a mango yet? They're my favorite."

OOC: Whew - forgive the excessive run-on-sentencing. It's a combination of the gnome's manner of speech and me being ready to turn in for the night. I like how the bugger talks, but I can get carried away with it. :)

Arianna

After grabbing and sampling something green, "Which ones are the mangoes?"

"So what does this fourth friend we have not met look like?" as she tests and probes his foresight. "What unique skills does he bring to the table?"

Ioseph Vors, human cleric 1

A bald human makes his way into the Dunn Wright Inn and stands in the doorway looking about in wonder. His brown robes are heavily travel stained and his boots are well worn. His carved holy symbol sits about his neck by a piece of frayed rope, and his backpack pulls at his shoulders.

"In or out! Either way shut that door!" Grog states from behind the bar.

Moving in and nodding an apology Iospeh stands in the center of the room looking somewhat lost. He has wondered for almost a month now helping those he can at the behest of Helerion and now he wonders why he is here in this city. There are plenty of people to help yes, but also plenty of others to do the helping. Why would the Lord of Light wish him to be here.

Not knowing exactly what it is he should do he address the small group of patrons.

"I seek to protect those who are in need of protection. I seek to help those who are down trodden or in need of assistance. I seek all this in the Bright One's name and by his grace."
Ioseph says out loud to the general crowd gathered amongst the tables.

"And I seek a little piece and quiet. So take your preaching somewhere else priest or at least keep it to yourself." Grog says disgusted by the humans outburst.

"I am sorry," Ioseph says with a humble bow, the head of his large hammer showing over one shoulder as he does. "I am not sure why I was led here. I..."

"Your no regular priest. Not with that mallet on your back." Grog interrupts. Jerking a thumb over his shoulder he points down the hall towards the back rooms. "Down there is what you... seek." the half-orc grumbles and then goes back to cleaning glasses and mugs.

Without another word Ioseph makes his way towards the back rooms and the adventure that awaits him.

OCC: Thanks for the quick approval SK. I am looking into your character an archtype over the next day or two for you.

"Oh, sorry, my dear....here," says the gnome as he leans across the table, almost completely out of his seat, and passes a mango to the merwoman. At Arianna's inquiry, he smiles. "Trying to test me, yes? Isonlyfair, I suppose, seeing as I will be testing yourselves sometime soon. I have come to think of our yet-to-appear colleague as the Old Man of Light. Perhaps it would be easier just to show you."

The gnome takes another joyful, two-handed swig from his mug before reaching for his deck of cards. Flipping them so that the face side is exposed, he sorts through them, murmuring to himself as he does so. When he comes upon the card he was looking for, he gives a slight shout of excitement, pulls it out, and lays it out on the table so that the others can see:

"Now,"
he says, "watch."

The gnome closes his eyes and begins to sway slightly, murmuring in a language none of the others understand. As they watch, the simple depiction of the sun begins to take on a much more defined character: the colors become nuanced, and soon the image itself begins to move. After a short time, this movement begins to become more than the limits of its two-dimensional format can contain, and it begins to emerge from the face of the card into the room itself. In a manner of moments after this point, a small, three-dimensional sun is hovering luminously over the card from which it came. As the three watch, out of the sun begins to emerge a small image of an older man, walking slowly but stridently, with an oversized hammer on his back. This image slowly gets larger, as the sun recedes...

*Knock*

At the sound of the knock on the door, the gnome's eyes pop open, and the image vanishes. "Ahhh! He has arrived." Bounding out of his chair expectantly, the gnome hurries to the door, opens it breathlessly, and greets Ioseph. "Come in come in come in...we were just talking about you."

OOC: Thanks for the timely creation of characters, everyone. When I started posting in here, I thought it was going to be awhile before we had enough players to get going. I'm going to start setting up the game thread now; I'll post a link in here when it's ready to go (some time between now and later this afternoon).

Looking forward to it.
