[Tavern Thread] The Dunn Wright Inn

Thuvian, lvl 4 wizard

As the conversations carry on, a simply dressed tiefling walks in and after sitting down at a corner table, hails one of the wait staff as he puts a backpack that looks distinctly newer than the rest of his gear down in the corner. Apparently this is not the first time he's been here, as the waitress who brings out the light snack and drink also brings a second smaller plate carrying a bit of food that she puts down on the floor by the pack, at which point, a small reptilian head pops peaks out, and shortly thereafter, a small snake slithers out to dine. The man pecks at his food as he watches the crowd for a while before finding a familiar face. Wandering over to Damaris, he looks over the assorted folks around her. "I see you wasted no time in finding yourself in the middle of a pack of hooligans again. What kind of trouble are they getting you into this time?"

Amien glances over his shoulder at the unexpected appearance of a fourth voice openly determining the occupants of the table as hooligans. Brows twitching, Amien's hands struggle to know if it is him being talked about as they silently gesture in question at himself, "Hooligan, trouble? Please, we're all respectable ladies and gentlemen having a chat.. At least I am. I don't know any of these people." It is unknown whether Amien can notice the snake in the vicinity of roughly several blocks, but even if he could he probably doesn't notice either way.

One more person makes his way in after Thuvian, a tall, scruffy looking man with a long beard, and dark hair that goes down to his shoulders. On his back are 2 weapons, a blade with a very wicked edge, and a large hammer that barley scratches the ceiling. A morning star hangs at his side next to a crossbow. His breastplate seems to have a new shine to it as well. The man clearly is some fighter of a kind, but still a rookie compared to the senior members hanging out in the opposite corner.

The man heads over to the bar to order a drink, and takes a look around at all the people currently in the inn. Seeing two faces he recognized sitting next to 3 he did not, the man decides to head over to the table.

Approaching Damaris and Thuvian, the man says "What, making new friends already you two?"

Nodding towards the other 3, the man introduces himself. "Names Tyrion. I was responsible for watching over these two during our last adventure."

Aradra eyes do not miss the wide eyed look; He has had that very look when he first arrived in the city.

Nodding as Bren finishes, Aradra says "I have met Cytheria as well. The two of them must have left on an adventure not long after we did. And by we I mean Kalinn, Relic " Aradra motions at the silent wizard reading his book " Daylily, whom you can smell, and a paladin named Iosef, who has retired. As for field experience, I've had the luxury of 5 years training in Rorn, but due to an unfortunate accident I had to retire from the army. Came here instead, and was able to find some work."

Borric Hawkins, Male Human Fighter

Borric glances sidelong at the drunk elf, "Ah, okay. Thanks, mate. But, I don't recall any priest, let alone that guy over there if he even is a priest, insulting me."

The warrior hopes that misunderstanding will go no further as he has no desire to get tossed out for being mistakenly instigating a brawl of something stupid. He likes Grog well enough and would not want the grumpy half-orc to bar him from the bar.

Changing the subject is good and Borric keeps occasionally glancing over at the newcomer while he asks Aradra, "What happened to keep you from soldiering, but still allows you to be a decent warrior? I assume you are a good fighter, yeah."

"He says you fight for gold like a mercenary?"
He jerks a thumb at Daylily who made that comment earlier when they were introducing themselves.

"Oh, don't be mean Thuvian, they are not hooligans (at least they don't look the part)" Damaris chuckles and pokes Thuvian on his side playfully.

"Well, I can vouch for them both. Dependable and resourceful, I must say. I already feel safer with them around."

Kaedyn Thorngood, Paladin of Helerion (NPC)

Kaedyn still doesn't look very happy.

Being called a hooligan by a tiefling brings a cold look to his eyes. However, the jest appears to be in fun and when the other warrior shows up as a former companion to the tiefling and girl, he lets it slide... for now.

"Go ahead and have a seat, Tyrion. Your friend can join us too." He glaces warily at the tiefling.

He resumes his conversation and answers, "Aye, it was not joyous circumstances that put me into the position of being in charge of the whole Order. We have been shorthanded on senior leadership for some time now. Some villainous goblins managed to ambush our patriarch on his way back to our city. Turns out a barghest, a creature like the one who' head is on a spike out front of the inn actually, was behind the assassination."

"The senior priest at the time was Father Kedric. He came in here and found some adventurers to help us then and they recovered the Patriarch's stolen sword before it was given over to some devil's minions that were behind the plot There were some Githyanki involved and a winged woman of a fiendish nature that got away."

"Still, what those adventurers were able to do was beyond the capability of my newest recruits. We still have that barghest in our dungeon. Nasty creature and we cannot let him even wake up yet lest he use his magical powers to go through walls."

"Alas, Father Kedric was not able to come here again... I am here to look around and see what sort of people frequent this place."

Amien soon leans over the table, now that they are properly being briefed on the nature of the downfall, to hear the Paladin's words a little better. "I see.. So if collecting adventurers from the Inn worked for Father Cedric, you hope it will work for you, right? I like to think I know things, but a 'barghest' is not something I have ever heard of. Tell me, what experiences with the monster have you already had that make it so terrifying?"

In response to Borric's question about why he was no longer a soldier, Aradra points to the long scar over his right eye. "This wound was caused by an undead abomination during a scouting mission gone south. The creature's claws apparently scratched my eye, but it was not deep enough to destroy it. During the month I had an eye patch on to let it heal, it was passed down from command that a scout with only 1 eye was a liability, so they asked me to cut my 5 year term short a couple months. Good thing they did, I think the army would be confused as to the abilities it now can do."

When Borric asks if Aradra fights for gold like a mercenary, Aradra looks taken aback by the statement. He glares unhappily at Daylily before saying to Borric "That is far from the truth. Any reward should never be the incentive to fight. You should do it because you are protecting those who cannot do it themselves. Who is to say a mercenary doesn't join the other side, simply because the other side offers him more money?"

Aradra sighs at this point, and continues "Granted, without money I would not be as equipped as I am now, and given my years of training both during and after the military I am far better skilled than I was when I first joined. That combination has allowed me the success I have had this far. But I also know where I can improve, and that allows me to keep training myself to get better. For example, most ranged attackers leave themselves open when they fire a bow in close quarters, correct? I am working on a way to prevent that from occurring, without sacrificing my accuracy or aim."

Tyrion listens carefully, trying to piece together the parts of the story he missed. From the sound of it, the blond haired man hit it right on the money: this paladin person seemed to be looking for assistance in some job, and he was simply scouting out the place looking for recruits.

Sitting down, Tyrion's eyes narrow as he listens to the paladin's response to the blond man's questions.
