It took Maia a moment to realize that her transaction is the source of so much tumult. With visible effort she stood back up and shuffled back to the counter, slightly bent over as if shouldering a weight.
"I'm very sorry if I did this wrong. You shouldn't blame him." At Fury's insistence she swept the coins into the pouch tied to the rope belt around her waist, then gave the bartender an apologetic smile.
Falkner's invitation gets her attention, and the gratitude on her face seems like it could light the common room up like a lantern.
"I am new, yes...I guess it's pretty obvious." With that she takes another drink from her mug and closes her eyes in a brief moment of rapture. "Are you sure I wasn't supposed to give him gold?" she asks. "This isn't just water. It has other minerals in it as well. It must have been very difficult to get."
Abruptly she holds out a smooth, almost porcelain hand across the table where either Fury or Falkner would find it easy to take hold of.
"I am Maia. It's very good to meet you both. I do have a lot of questions, but many of them I hope to answer simply by experiencing them. Still, I'm sure you can help me with some basics. What are your names, and what is this about a city of glass? I think I'd remember seeing something as amazing as that...though it would be very fragile. Has it already broken?"
Her face is completely guileless, her tone utterly forthright. If she's feigning ignorance, or veiling mockery, her skill in doing so must be nigh-legendary.
