[Tavern Thread] The Dunn Wright Inn

Fury, male human bravo

Fury snorts and mutters, "Oh, it's broken alright," before he nods a greeting at the girl and in response to Amadeus Falkner's question. "Just about." He focuses his concerned gaze on the girl when he continues. "There are plenty of people who will try to take advantage of you or hurt you for those jangly bits of metal in your pouch so be wary." He sighs. Looking at the open expression of her face he doesn't think she remotely comprehends the danger of the city.

Maia's expression goes from dreamy at Falkner's description of the fabulous City of Glass to confused when Fury adds his piece. She does pick up on a recurring theme though, which was a certain tone of warning that both of them sounded.

"Then...I have misunderstood. The giving of metal for things is not some kind of gift-giving ritual at all." She moves her eyes from Falkner to Fury, and back. "It's more...structured? So that specific things, like a cup of water and minerals, have to be exchanged for specific kinds of metal..."

She rubs her temple. "It seems very complicated now. And there's something I don't understand. Why metal? I can understand why water and food and clothes...those are all things you need. But as far as I can tell, you have no need for gold, or silver, or copper...yet that's what you exchange for just about everything. But without need, it can't have value..."

As she spoke, Maia took out a coin each of gold, silver and copper from her pouch, and laid them on the table. The gold coin was one of hers, and it was a featureless gold disc; about the right size for a coin, but clearly not minted. The silver and copper coins were her change from the bartender, and had the usual printing on them. Noticing the differences, Maia trailed off as she held the silver coin up to scrutinize it closely.

"Look at what you do," she said softly. "Each little piece of metal becomes a work of art..."

Falkner pauses a moment, thinking before responding

"I suppose the whole reason for money is just to make things easier. It may seem complicated now but I'm sure you will get the hang of it soon enough. Until then though, just make sure you keep someone around that can make sure you aren't being swindled by anyone dishonest."

Falkner glances at the bartender from before, then continues

"As for being a piece of art, just wait until you see Incudine."

Maia frowns at the admonition against dishonest folk, but instantly brightens when Falkner brings up the mysterious Incudine again. That was the location of the City of Glass, she recalled, which was where the Cathedral of Glass could be found.

"Tell me about Incudine," she asks intently. "Is it a far off land? Is it nestled into one of the valleys carved by ice rivers all those years ago? Or half-buried under the great desert across the sea! Is the City of Glass its capital? How many people live there? Is the whole city glass, or just the Cathedral? How did you come to be so far away from it?"

She props her chin on her hands and smiles at Falkner so radiantly that, had it been the depths of a midwinter blizzard, it would feel that spring had arrived.

"You must have seen all the world..."

A young human dressed in nice but slightly oversized clothing enters sporting no weapons except a dagger and a raier. His Phisical stature is un-remarkable, but he walks with a certain grace. Upon hearing of his home neighborhood, Incundine, he brightens and walks over to the gentlemen and lady in conversation about it.

"ah, la magnifica cattedrale di vetro! What do you want to know of it?"

His accent is clearly of local origin. His face glows as if the conversation was about his own home.

[sblock=Recruitment] It seems I have lost a couple players and we need some added muscle in http://www.enworld.org/forum/playing-game/297075-lpf-bats-belfry.html

Will take up to three who are interested in helping finishing the adventure.

Current Classes:
Summoner
Summoner
Bard

A warrior or two won't go amiss. :p

Check out the link and if your interest post that here. Recruitment open for 24 hours so those over seas don't feel left out. Then will decide on who to take. Also I will have an NPC recruiting 4-6 players for a job in the next day or two. Need to kick some judges under the table to get an approval.[/sblock]

[sblock=beginner's question]
How do we properly respond to recruitment opportunities? Ausk is a good warrior type and available for helping you finish Bats in the Belfry.

A Soul Indiscretion

A narrow faced man, sporting a scruffy stubble that covers his neck thickly and only sprouts in patches on his cheeks enters the Dunn Wright Inn. He wears ill fitting chainmail and a dirty white cloak hangs from his shoulders.

As he squints around the room he buffs a badge proclaiming himself a member of Venza's guard, but this individual is clearly not one of the smart White Cloaks from the Roses or Incubine, Venza's smarter districts. No this wretched specimen wreaks of the Planks, officially the Ranocchio Venza's slum district - literally for those close enough.

"Er, hey, I am lookin' fer some hired swords with a bit of experience like. Need ye fer Commander Handso, got some murders an' such goin' on and we is too short staffed. It's dangerous work, so we don't want greenhorns unless ye ready te take yer life in yer hands. If yer interested come and see me Corporal Lorrazio. Pays good."

So saying the unsavory guardsman takes a chair at an empty table and peers about expectantly.

[sblock=The Adventure]
Looking for the adventurers with the highest XP, or failing that those with tough characters, since this is a 2nd level adventure - and probably a quite hard one at that.[/sblock]

At the newcomer's arrival, Falkner turns to Maia and says "Excuse me just a moment.", before getting up and walking over to the guardsman. With an air of delicacy he approaches and says quietly:

"Would the Commander have an issue with an ex-White cloak helping? I would love to help get to the bottom of all this, but I can understand if Handso wants to avoid any PR issues by having me assist in the investigation."

[Sblock=OOC] I'm game if there is space, im not second level but i'm pretty damn durable for a first level character. (20AC, 12HP, blocks first ranged attack each round) [/Sblock]
