Teaching my wife the Basic Game

diaglo

Adventurer
so i bought the new Basic Boxed set.

and before i got a chance to put it on the shelf. my wife opened it. (there goes that collector's item/shrinkwrapping)

and asked me to DM for her. she wandered around and fought a few kobolds, skeletons, orcs, etc...

but got the biggest kick out of talking to Alyssa in the mirror.

the next morning... i refereed my usual OD&D group and we had a new player... her real name is Alyssa... :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:

I'm teaching my wife with the basic set as well.

The 1980 Basic Set, that is.

edit: and 2 other new players, both co-workers.

my wife didn't want to join our OD&D sessions. she says she doesn't have that much time. and didn't want to spoil the others fun...

That's what my wife said, about my 3.5 group. Well, that and the 320 page PHB put her off as well.

Then I showed her the 64 page moldvay book, and told her that only about 30-40% of it was geared toward the player anyway. She's currently the best roleplayer and problem solver in the group.

Life is good.

Maybe one of you guys can get your wife to talk to my wife?
This is a good idea. Just start a similar post, and have our significants look at some testimonials from you guys who wives play. Just have them post and explain some of the misconceptions of D&D.

What do you think?
