Send her my way CL!! Let me hang out with her for a few days and I'll convince her to play... and teach her to love it!

Well, you don't live that far away... :)

Actually, Laura is really good about me and gaming. She's given it a few tries, and even knows a fair amount about RPGs and SF/Fantasy in general between living with me for several years now and her former job at Tor Books. She'll even carry on a conversation with me as I ramble on about characters, adventure ideas, and so on. But when it comes right down to it, fantasy just doesn't appeal to her. So I keep trying in fun, but I'm not expecting any miracles to happen. She's more than willing to turn her dining room and living room over to a bunch of gamers 1 or 2 nights a week, and that's all I really ask of her.

Way to go, diaglo! And way to go, Sue!

I'll keep working on my wife, once I get the boys back into it I know I can convince her to join some family game time.

And this player of yours certainly would welcome Sue to the table. I make myself at home at her place often enough for games, and she is a gracious hostess.

so i bought the new Basic Boxed set.

and before i got a chance to put it on the shelf. my wife opened it. (there goes that collector's item/shrinkwrapping)

and asked me to DM for her. she wandered around and fought a few kobolds, skeletons, orcs, etc...

but got the biggest kick out of talking to Alyssa in the mirror.

the next morning... i refereed my usual OD&D group and we had a new player... her real name is Alyssa... :uhoh: :uhoh: :uhoh:
Wow. That's anticlimactic.

Just kidding, sorta. Glad you got your loved one to play. Now you can make it a family game. :D

When the campaign I ran from 1991 to 2000 ended, the couple who (along with my wife) formed the core of the group divorced and moved away, she lost interest in playing anymore. Which is a shame; she's absolutely wonderful at it. She detests the "numbers" (odd, because she can perform calculus in her head), but she loves the roleplaying aspects of it.

Now we just need to get diaglo's wife together with my wife ... and stick to 2-hour sessions (kind of a long drive for that, though).

I'd suggest it for our next session, but my spousal unit's doing a dog show that weekend.

My girlfriend just started playing with my group here at school with us. Kinda funny, since she always complained whenever we even mentioned getting the group together. Now she keeps talking about 8+ hour sessions and stuff. Mwa! Another one to the dark side...

Shrinkwrapping is inexpensive, and lets face it - almost nothing mass produced today will become a collectors item unless there's a nuclear holocaust or something.

Ways to involve SOs in gaming

Here are a few ideas to get your wives into gaming slowly.

1. Have them help you with ideas for campaigns. This works great for GMs. You can bounce ideas off her and she might come up with cool stuff. If you teach them how to make characters, they can help with making NPCs too.

2. Let them be reoccurring guests during sessions. If you have an idea of something for their PC to do, you can invite them to a session. If they have a cool idea, they can see if you can fit them in a session. And if they can't make a game or just don't feel like playing during an up coming session, it won't mess with things.

Most of all, don't push. As much as I wish that the population of fellow chick gamers was being increased, some woman just aren't and will never be into our awesome hobby. Good luck.
