(Tech Suport) My Icons are running away from my cursor

Dark Psion

First Post
I was about to shut down for the night and all of the icons on the start up page were scattered all over the place. I re- Arranged them and when I moved my cursor over them they moved away. I called my provider, he had me go to MS-DOS, enter scanreg /restore and restore my settings.
This was a partial success, they no long run away, but shuffle themselves in their rows like a slot machine.

Is there any thing else I can do or is it time for the system recovery disc?

If by start-up page you mean your desktop (in Windows 95 or 98, etc.) then do this:

1- Right click on your desktop with the mouse.

2- Make sure that there is NOT a check mark beside "Auto Arrange". If so, left-click to remove the check.

Everything should be good for you.

Without the Auto Arrange, they start roaming all over the screen as I move my cursor to them. At least they move slow enougth for me to catch them.

I have anti virus sofware, but it got around it and yes I now have a BETTER antivirus program. I'm not sure what to do with the Desktop page though. I know how to scan programs, downloads and e-mail, But what do you do with the desktop that doesn't require night school at a technical college?

Do you have anti virus software? It sounds like you've got a virus

go to www.symantec.com and download the trial version of Norton Antivirus if you don't.

If you don't have that site above on your favorite list you might want to add it.

They have the most thorough virus scan I have ever seen, it took all afternoon, but it works and it's free.

My virus was called W32.Magistr.39921@mm
If you Icons start running away, this is what is causing it.

Heh, I love that one.

Make sure you update your virus scanner on weekly basis, not once or twice a month. (Norton has a decent auto-updater, called live update.)

I work for an ISP, trust me. Now, open the email attachment I just sent you... :D
