Teflon Billy made me spit up my soda!

This is his bio as an ENnie judge:
----------------
Jeff 'Teflon Billy' Ranger

Jeff "Teflon Billy" Ranger has been playing RPG's for more than 20 years now, has organized game conventions, and has had a few wildly unsuccessful forays into the RPG industry, including a module for Cyberpunk 2020 and some magazine pieces.

He still cries himself to sleep occasionally when he thinks that the "kill fee" offered by Wizards of the Coast for his GURPS/Talislanta project was to be either cash, or double the cash value in company stock.

It seemed they had a little project coming up that they really believed in called Magic: the Gathering.

He took the cash.
--------------------
I was reading all of them when this one struck me as so funny I had to choke down a sip of my soda.....thanks TB!

Heh, Well. I live to serve:)

I'm almost at the point in my life now where it's not physically painful to think about it:)

TB - I'm not sure I should ask but how much of that cash did you spend on Magic cards...?

None...my association with the fledgling WotC left me with a lot of friends still involved in the company.

I got lots of cards (like. boxes at times) for free as many of the artists didn't actually play the game.

M:tG ddin't really hold my attention though. I was pretty much through with it before the second series was released.

It took the trappings of D&D and turned it into something like a "sports analog"; but something at which nerds could "Rule" (provided they would spend the money).

My "kill Fee" was spent on my trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras...I stayed for 13 months:)

For the record:
It was the delivery NOT what happened that made me drool diet coke.

Good, I was beginning to regret how many THG Products I supported for the ENnies:)

FOr the Record, Bluffside: City on the Edge has been added to my game world. Excellent supplement.

Sorry but I missed the "Magic" boat. Did you develop the game?

No, not really. I beta tested it in the back of the WotC van while hurtling along interstate 90 on the way to Gen Con from Seattle...but that's my entire contribution.

Hand written cards with Calvin and Hobbes art glued on:)

I still recall the original "Hydro Blast" had a picture of Hobbes nailing Calvin with a water balloon.

The Roiginal "Howl From Beyond" was just a closeup of Calvin's face yelling WAAAUUUGH,

Fun times:)

Ahhh... sorry, now your bio makes sense, not that it didn't before. It's just the I'd been out of the loop for awhile and now that I'm back I haven't gotten beyond D&D 3e.:)

So, did WOTC publish your "project."
