Teleporting on a flying dragon's back?

If it is a grapple check, there seems to be no practical way to pull it off. When you teleport on the dragon's back, all you have is a movement action left, so no grapple.

Good point, I guess I wouldn't allow it in most situations then :)

Right! All you have is ride or climb. ride seems most appropriate...fast mount, no saddle. The real issues with ride is the size difference. IF not using ride, I'd probably spider climb myself before i port.

I guess my main question to this tactic would be WHY? what good does it do to be hanging onto the back of a dragon? I see no advantage here...

I would probably rule it as a 'Stay in saddle' Ride check (DC 5 or fall).

Also note, I would descrease someone's familiarity with a destination if it was moving and not fully enclosed (increasing the chance of the teleport being off-target)

The "why" is a lack of flying magic and the probability of the dragon flying off or simply staying in the air during combat.

A lot of good it's going to do you holding on for dear life. Compare to jumping on top of a semi barreling down the highway...I rarely see this technique used by law enforcement.

(Just because you CAN do it doesn't mean you SHOULD do it.)

What if the character used Dimension Door instead of Teleport, would it be possible to avoid falling since the character can't take actions? I was never sure if Dimension Door prohibited passive actions such as spot checks, etc or just "active" actions.

If this involves rolling a natural 20 with a 1st Ed Vorpal Sword and cutting off the dragon's tail....it's been 13 years since that incident....let it pass.....
