Tell me about C&C

Just to illustrate how opinions differ I find Shadowrun much easier to run and prep for than 3E D&D. Just like I also think C&C SIEGE is far more intuitive then others appear too. The wonders of variety. :)

But anyway, C&C is certainly not for everyone. I see it as filling a specific niche in the FRPG market -- namely, satsifying the demand for a 'rules light' and/or 'old school' D&D-style game. It fills that niche quite well, IMO & IME.

I love the rules-lite aspect and I like the old school feel. To me, it feels more like D&D than 3.5 does. Maybe it's the art. ;)

Also, it is pretty easy to use most of the current 3e material out there now with it. The ability to easily convert material from any edition of D&D into C&C is one of the game's main virtues.

That's a big draw for me as well. C&C allows me to use my old gaming books with a system that I like better than AD&D. Likewise, I can take the things from 3e that I like and use them too. I like all editions of D&D, so C&C makes me a happy camper.

What I find is that D&D seems to be a bit too rules-heavy, and C&C is a bit too rules-light. I personally am not the biggest fan of 3.5's combat system. I also find that they make things a bit too complicated. I prefer the idea of a plug-and-play system, rather than having a bunch of conditional modifiers.

Likewise, I prefer D&D's single XP chart to the variable ones of C&C. I like the modularity of D&D.

I like having a skills system, though I would just use my own judgment in setting the DC's for skill rolls. I never quite liked AD&D's skill system. C&C doesn't have skills, instead relying on the mechanics of the SIEGE engine.

Feats...I like how they can customize things. I like some, not others.

Prestige classes - Nice idea, but sometimes a bit complicated on the prerequisites.

I love the races in C&C. Having typical classes rather than favorite classes is a better fit for a race. I also think that should be a role-playing suggestion and not a rules element.

I guess I can examine it back and forth all day. Point is, I like both D&D and C&C, yet neither one fully does it for me. I'm considering a hybrid of sorts where I use C&C as my basic system (mainly with races and classes), add in the 3.5 skills, a simplified feat system, definitely use C&C combat, and make the rest up f rom there. I'm not sure how all of that will work out.
