D&D 4E Tell me about these "preview books" for 4e

I understand Wotc is releasing some "preview" splat-type books for 4e. Where can I get more info? (Probably just a few well-chosen links will suffice, but feel free to pontificate as well :) ).

I am damn eager for 4e. I hope these preview books are coming soon.

I hadn't heard this. Is this related to the quote up on the Ask Wizards page today:

Ask Wizards said:
Instead, we’ll be showing you bits and pieces of the game on dndinsider.com in the upcoming months, as well as in select preview products hitting the bookshelves this winter.

That's the first (and only) thing I have heard about any kind of "preview" products.

EDIT: Spoke too soon - Scott Rouse posted a list over here:

Interesting...

and there are products that are 4e previews or feature final 4e rules

Wizards Presents: Classes and Races
Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters
Grand History of the Realms
Desert of Desolation DDM
Keep on the Shadowfell
Dungeons of Dread DDM
DDM Starter

Three D&D Minis products. Keep on the Shadowfell is the "quickstart" adventure they already told us about. Grand History of the Realms he also listed as "edition proof" - meaning no stats, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be in the list or not.

The other two look like the "previews" being discussed. "Worlds and Monsters" is particularly interesting to me -- it's been stated that FR will be the first Campaign world to get converted - maybe this is going to give us an idea of which other worlds are up at the plate for conversion?

Since the anouncment, there have been a number of ref. to these.

My GUESS is that the preview books will be fluff (ie no rules) descriptions--and hopefully lots of art--of the types of charecters and monsters that will be in the PHB.

BUT, they can still mess with us, by putting in more races and classes then apear in PHBI.

Honestly, I very much doubt they will be all fluff. These books have likely already gone to press. My bet is, whatever major changes they are making to the races/classes and world/monsters are finalized already.

EDIT: This is a big tip off for me about playtesting. I believe it will mostly be shaving off any unforeseen bumps; it will not be a time to rebuild whole systems.

They haven't gone to press yet. According to this link, the October releases went to press at the end of July, which means that the December releases will only go to the printers late in September.

There's still time for gnomes!

Quick, everyone send garden gnomes to WotC! :D
