Hmmmm, I wasn't sure about it in the beginning, but I now notice that this PrC/Templete is allmost completely about defense. There's almost no offensive stuff there.

Which is definitally not a bad thing. Just make sure it's the flavor you want.

I would point out though, that they suddenly gain +2 Dex, Wis, and Cha at 5th level (8th/9th char level). That might bare looking at again.

Lux Eternalis

I'm glad you find my PrC inoffensive ;)

Yes, IMHO Lanternals are defensive and supportive. As to the extra Dex, Wis and Cha, it in no way makes up for losing 5 levels of any normal class -- think about getting those abilities for ECL +5, that would so not be worth it.

The thing that I fear would be unbalancing is the spell-like ability progression. Since they're based off of hit dice, the character continues to gain abilities as she advances in level. I think that makes sense, since otherwise the abilities would be rather lame, but it's a potential problem.

Now, for Canis Eternalis...

I don't think that's too much of a problem. A few minor defensive spells won't hurt the game often. If you think it's a problem, take one or two off the high end or give a limit on Caster Level (up to 15 HD).

Waiting on Canis Eternalis...

I put the Lanternal (+ Disciple) and Canis Eternal (+ Disciple) on the web:

http://klimt.cns.nyu.edu/~fishman/DnD/templates.html

I'll "reprint" the new ones & future ones here if anyone thinks that's useful.

I like it on the web. Very useful.

I like the Canis a lot. Would make an excellent Paladin or Cleric.

Keep em coming Nifft. Whether anyone else reads them or not (unlikely) I want every bit goodness.

Two new ones! (Yes, it's been a slow day at work... :p )

"Just the two of us.
We can make it if we try.
Just the two of us.
You and I."

I think you have a talant for these things Nifft. They look great.

What made you go with Teleport Without Error at 11 HD for the Guavoral?

What would you say these are for? What I mean is, it seems like they'll be giving up a huge amount of combat and spellcasting skills if they take the class.

I think I'm looking for some flavor, is all. A "Why would I use this" kinda thing for the classes.

I do hope you plan to do some of the demons or devils. For me, these are great fun to read and dream about but the two Ds are what I can throw at my party.

Rangers should be drooling at the Canis Disciple. They lose two points of BAB, but gain Scent, two points of Str, Wis and Cha, and some spell-like abilities they wouldn't have had access to otherwise (especially Dimension Door).

Many fighting classes should be interested in the Guavorial -- non-magical Flight is hard to come by, and no-one wants to be without at least one Teleport Without Error (two by Epic levels).

Combat won't actually suffer that much for many of them. Most give either a Natural Armor boost (which is a PAIN to come by any other way), a Strength boost, or both. All follow the Cleric's BAB progression (which is not half bad).

The role I see them filling is that of a poor man's Paladin -- imagine a Lantern Archon alone in the Swamp of Vile Darkness, training the native Lizard Men in the ways of the Celestial Host, to combat the invading Fiendish Medusas.

Anyway, I think the Avoral Disciple is a little weak -- I was considering giving it Fighter BAB. Since we're alone, Lela, would you consent to this?

I'll get on with the Demons & Devils soon enough (especially the Devils -- Demons are chaotic & random enough, that that template needs a bunch of options and nothing more). It seemed to me that Celestials were more neglected.

Well, I don't think it's that underpowered. What's your reasoning?

In any case, it's only 3 points of Atk bonus at 17th level. It won't overbalance it if you do.

Fair enough. Celestials were just neglected because they aren't known for taking down the common party. Which isn't to say that we don't need more of them. Just that they've always been lower priority than the evil guys. Then they got forgotten. It's too bad no one else seems to be enjoying these as much as I am.

Devils will be nice though. Something more to look forward to.
